Prop options for an F

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I think the time to upgrade my old AD-hub prop has arrived. Slinging some grease around inside the spinner.

What are my options? Does someone have a good used one? Am I better off in the long run buying new? Which prop is recommended? I’d like to stick with a 2-blade aluminum.

Non ad hubs are scarce.   Probably have to buy new.  Going with the hartzell again and you can reuse the blades.  Upgrading the hub and you will probably have over 10k in it.  Get it  resealed and eddy current checked and probably around 2k if the insides are good.

I recently priced out a two and three blade propeller new from Hartzell for our E model. The two came in at $15,291 and the three at $18,891.

I think it's outrageous honestly, and we decided to keep our old prop. Mind you, ours is a non recurring AD "B" hub, so at least we have that going for us. It hardly seems worth it to shell out that kind of money for marginally better performance

How many hours on the prop and how many overhauls? If it was serviced with Aeroshell 6 at last overhaul, the most recent formulation is known to separate. If slinging grease is the only issue, I would just have it resealed or overhauled and go fly.  Herniated seals are sometimes a self inflicted wound caused by over servicing the hub with grease. Has it recently under gone annual inspection?
