[SOLD] Wing fuel gauge capsules 880024-005

Hi All, 

I accidentally bought these via eBay; they have the wrong markings for my plane (which is a -009) but I believe are useful for others. I made a mistake about the application and marking. They were listed "NEW Rochester FUEL SENDER, DIAL P/N 5-01405 , PN 66781-00262, MOONEY 880011-505".

They appear to be marked as "78-0012" , "5-0145" on the dial.  I think these correspond to Mooney # 880024-005 on the parts manual, but please check. 

4 gauges, two packs of two (double what I expected). 

Will ship all USPS Priority for $45. Known board members only or verify bona fides out-of-band.

Those are “NOS” (new old stock) original design for the J model (you are correct that they are 880024-005). The original capsule was made with an aluminum domed back and an aluminum crimped ring holding the plastic lens in place. (Notice that they match the picture posted in 2023 regarding wing gauges). Newly manufactured wing gauges by Rochester for Mooney are all plastic case and lens bonded together (the back of the plastic version protrudes as a step rather than a smooth dome.)

Both designs work the same and both fit in the receptacle on the wing interchangeably. Just be sure to dig the old RTV out before bonding in with new silicone. 
 

Anyone with a J that needs replacement wing gauges should jump on a set.

At a glance, these look exactly like my wing gauges … I’ve never had any problem with mine, but I gather that they’re kind of hard to replace if one departs the aircraft?

When you say "hard to replace" - do you mean "hard to source" or "hard to install"?

They are hard to source because they are Mooney OEM parts with proprietary faces manufactured by Rochester Sensors company.  Mooney Corp has little cash and is slow to order anything from third parties.

Installation is easy.

Are you just talking about the "access panel" (#5)?   Or the panel with float/pick-up (#1) and dial face (#3)?

Oh no, I just meant “hard to find” … I’m tempted to buy these just to put them on a shelf. But I don’t want to take them away from someone who’s actively looking for one.
