pjsny78 Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 I think I may have overstressed one of my cowl flaps and it cracked along a joint. Does anyone know of any place that can do a repair on a cowl flap? My mechanic said that I don’t even want to know what it may cost to replace. So I’m hoping someone may know of a reputable place that does this sought of work. Any information is appreciated. Quote
jetdriven Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 AC 43.13 allows sheet metal repairs. Can you double up the cowl flap on the inside and rivet in a patch? Metal repairs are relatively simple and a known quantity. Quote
201er Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 What were you doing? Cruising beyond yellow arc and slamming them shut??? Damn. Your plane is like a maintenance magnet! Or a maintenance gold mine depending from who's perspective you look at it! Quote
pjsny78 Posted April 20, 2012 Author Report Posted April 20, 2012 I'm not sure jetdriven. i may be wrong but i think its made out of fiberglass. i will ask my mechanic to see what he can do. he did mention something about a repair but he cautioned me, that it could be a few hours of labor and then may not work. im just afraid to spend a few hours of labor to try to do a fix and it wont work and then spend a small fourtune to get a part. jetdriven Posted April 21, 2012 Report Posted April 21, 2012 Mine had the doublers as Jim said, but the flap itself is aluminum. Easy to repair. Quote
