crj700 Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 I have been looking for an E model for a couple of months now. I talked to the owner of 5962Q which is listed in Trade-a-Plane, Controller and Aircraft Shopper for $48k. This plane must have been listed at different times as the annual inspections have different due dates?? The owner has done some of the newer parts replacements and had IA sign offs. I have done my research on what questions to ask after talking to Lasar quite a few times. After 45 minutes of questions and looking at pictures this plane seems like it should have sold by now. Any comments appreciated, quite a few pics on Trade-a-Plane, thanks Rick
Swingin Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 It has some damage history from 30+ years ago. (http://report.myairplane.com/). Otherwise it's hard to say from just the ad. No mention of the fuel tanks, that can be very expensive. If you're serious about buying it, a few hundred for an inspection at a Mooney service center will save you many thousands down the road.
mschmuff Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 My first question would be "when was the engine overhauled and by whom?" 130SMOH sounds great but not when it was done in 1995! The AOPA Vref is in the $50k ballpark as equiped but that number can come down quickly depending on that engine. Paint and Interior look "ok".....No IFR GPS let alone a 430. No auto pilot, just a wing leveler. $40k sounds like a reasonable number to me. You are in CA and this thing is in Baltimore....long way to go for a plane! Thats just me talking out loud.....
jetdriven Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 That thing has 20 grand in mods and a low time engine. Serioulsy, i bet it doesnt sell because it is brown, has ugly interior and no 430W. The seller could install one and almost get all the money for the GPS. People lament about there being no J's available for less than 80K yet pass on a M20E with a 201 windshield and panel, which fixes the two weakest parts of the pre-J airplanes.
Mooney65E Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 Low time engine is the biggie here...if it was done by a reputable shop...recently. If it was rebuilt by Joe's garage 8 or 10 years ago, chances are your cam and lifters are toast. If it was flown regularily, I'd jump on this one. Paint and interior would be the least of my concerns. I'd be looking for a low time engine with decent avionics. Just my .02.
crj700 Posted April 1, 2012 Author Report Posted April 1, 2012 4more hrs looking at partial logs....Logs are a Nightmare...multiple engines, major damage history...not gear up but possible off airport landing. MLG replaced...2 paint jobs in 3 yrs...130 hrs. SMOH...14 yrs ago. This is my 2nd post after1hr of typing. I must have timed out...this plane is probably fine but a probably a nightmare to sell with sketchy logs. I'm passing. Hey Mike, I can jump seat free but getting her home would be fuel costly but worth it for the right plane....Did you ever find an F Model?
