jetdriven Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 our 77 J door lever gets tight and you can feel it go overcenter. Rigging instructions er the Mooney M20J SMM are below as JPG. contact me if you need a better image. Quote
N1026F Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 Adjust the door ASAP. It scares passengers when that happens: some may actually believe they'll be "sucked out." Congratulations on doing your job of flying the plane. Over time, it's sure to happen in the future; now you can calmly laugh it off and tell the right seat that you've flown it like that before! I actually asked my CFI to let me fly with the door open during flight before my solo because I'd read the distraction could lead to gear up landings and worse. It came in handy one day during an intro flight with friends prior to a long trip...we were IMC immediately after take off and I said "wow, that's kinda loud but we're gonna have more fresh air than usual, the plane is designed to fly fine with the door ajar...". Again, good job "flying the plane!" Quote
jwilkins Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 There was a Mooney kit for 'door pin retro fit' that supplied a pin and matching socket to be installed on the forward top corner of the door. The theory was that in turbulence the upper corner can get bounced open and the pin helps hold the door in place. Certainly no substitute for proper latch rigging, but still a good idea. Dan at Lasar parts sold several of these kits to us when we were back East. I'm sure he could look up the kit and tell you if it is applicable to your plane. After the first few installations we could put one on in about an hour and a half if all went well. Thinking about it, I should call him and see if the kit applies to the 'new' plane, too. Jim Quote
testwest Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 +1, we could use this retrofit! The Mooney p/n is 940072-501......if you find out the availability and cost could you post that info? Thanks!! Quote
peter Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 +2. Maybe we can do a group buy? I hear the pin kit also helps quite down the cabin by keeping that top corner of the door tighter against the seal. Quote
jwilkins Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 I sent an Email to Dan at Lasar asking if the kit is still available. Jim Quote
jwilkins Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 Dan at Lasar said the kits are still available. I understand the number is limited, but today he said they are available. Dan's number is 800 954 5619 Quote
