Taking off from  Bartow, Florida this afternoon in Ovation with G1000 panel, the status bar on the PFD showed only white GPS signal

rather than green. In several minutes the GPS indication turned green. So no GPS on a sunny day over central Florida.

Does anyone know how this can happen?

Thanks Everyone

I was in Winter Haven this morning and have a G1000 in my O2 and didn’t have any GPS signal problems arriving or departing between 8am and 10am.

Truckers have been known to carry portable GPS jammers. We’re you passing over the highway when it happened?

When GLS approaches first came out, Boeing and Airbus were predicting that they would be eventually capable of CAT III auto land approaches. Haven’t heard a peep about that since and I suspect that the risk of jamming is one of the reasons. GLS uses a local ground based transmitter to verify the accuracy of the satellite signals and transmit a “correction” to the GLS receiver in the aircraft. Great idea until someone with a jammer parks at the end of the runway.

Could be many things, my guess is that the system had to download the almanac, that takes awhile and of course is temporary.

‘I say that as it was an initial issue after power up, and that’s when things like that occur, jamming is possible and easy to do, but almost always will have a limited range, so a moving aircraft shouldn’t be jammed for long at all, jamming should be a complete loss of location also.

Spoofing is possible, but exceedingly unlikely, it’s not easy at all to spoof a GPS receiver
