Glen Davis Posted January 15, 2021 Report Posted January 15, 2021 I want to use a training course to become more competent with my Garmin 530W. Has anyone used one that you liked and would recommend? I'm thinking online, not in person. Glen
Jerry 5TJ Posted January 15, 2021 Report Posted January 15, 2021 Not a course, but a training tool https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3531 is useful for learning the menu procedures and 530 operations. 1
midlifeflyer Posted January 15, 2021 Report Posted January 15, 2021 Have you checked YouTube? For example, this is Garmin's own course. It's the one they sent to now owners of the unit. It's pre-WAAS so it's dated in some ways, but WAAS didn't affect much in terms of buttonology and the flow of the system. It is a good start but expect at some point to spend time with an CFI who knows some of the tips, trick, gotchas, and shortcuts. I have a short list of what I consider basic tasks which experience has taught me pilots have not learned adequately. I use at least one of them when I do an IPC or give checkouts or recurrent instrument training. I'm rarely surprised, even with "experienced" users. 2
