Routine Change + Distraction = Gear Overspeed in F-14

I came across this clip the other day. It is an excerpt from a full length interview. He is a former F-14 Topgun instructor, they also show a clip from The Final Countdown in the interview, he was one of the pilots that flew the F-14's in the movie. He tells about flying 840 kts at 50' over the ocean and then describes how on a different flight he ripped the gear doors off the F-14 and ended up put in hack for it. I thought you might all enjoy.

For T/O, without a head wind... they tune up launch system... for a stronger acceleration along the deck.

Flying low and fast over the water requires constant attention... (proven elsewhere around here)

Shoes had a SIC watching for traffic.... including boats!
