Flynnupe Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Hello guys im new to this site and have turned to more experienced minds in order to hopefully get some ideas. In Dec of this year I purchased a `81 Mooney J. Everything was going great. However, In feb I purchased all new landing gear discs and took them to the wrong mechanic in order to have them installed. Mistake #1, this guy said that he was an experienced mooney person, However, when I got my airplane back it now has a gradual right turn when taxing and you take your feet off the pedals. My main Mechanic that I truly trust has checked it out, checked the rigging of the gear as well as the control surfaces however couldnt locate the source of the problem. Quote
Cris Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 One possibility may be the brakes. If one side is not fully releasing it may cause that condition. Check to see if both sets of pads are the same thickness. Quote
n6773v Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 You might want to look at SB M20-202. If you changed all your pucks including the nose gear your alignment may be off - the mechanic should have done the measurements and may not have added the correct shims. Don Maxwell has a pretty good article "the 8 second ride" you may want to read. Quote
thinwing Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 good point..all these checks are right in the service manual...kpc Quote
Immelman Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 Nosewheel centering is controlled by a pair of rods that connect the steering horn at the top of the NLG to the actuating rod coming from the rudder pedals. One rod has male threads, the other female, and they go together with a jam-nut to se them. If this got tweaked, your nosewheel won't be centered when your rudder pedals are. I dont see how changing the shock discs could have affected it, though... you might ask him if the two rods were disconnected as part of the shock disc install. Quote
