AH-1 Cobra Pilot Posted April 3, 2020 Report Posted April 3, 2020 Have you looked at VREF lately? The format has totally changed. The thing I found most interesting is that new avionics and other upgrades are depreciated over 10 years. This seems to me to be a total crock. You buy an airplane with a 10 year old Garmin 530, and it is just as valuable as the same airplane with no GPS?!? Somebody created a mess with this! 1 Quote
carusoam Posted April 3, 2020 Report Posted April 3, 2020 Not so much a total crock... The box has the same value in operation as the day it left the factory... The price goes down over a decade... that is a huge benefit. Somebody decided to be the expert in plane and parts Pricing... Where they get their info from... and what affects the market price... and their chosen baseline... all affect the price... They probably said... all IFR planes have a base line of a non-waas GPS... Prices will go up and down from that zero point... That doesn’t mean a basic GPS is worth zero... but not having one, will be worth even less... When it comes to valuing a Mooney Vref has never been the go to place to make anyone happy... Going to Jimmy May not have the big data computer algorithm to go with it... but the data is real... Most of this only matters when buying and selling... a few times in between, an insurance value or loan value may be required... This is in the don’t look until you have to category... PP thoughts only, not a finance guy... Best regards, -a- Quote
Andy95W Posted April 3, 2020 Report Posted April 3, 2020 Vref doesn't say how much your airplane is worth. Selling price does. 1 Quote
