Royski Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 In my 1983 M20J the landing light wiring uses knife terminal connectors covered by sliding tubes of insulating material secured with zip ties. Is there an acceptable substitute connection that is easier to connect and disconnect, without requiring the insulating tubes and zip ties? I am thinking of something like Anderson Powerpoles or a Molex connection.
Magnum Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 I'd use AMP connectors. Not cheap, but they last forever. You'll have to order the pins seperately, but you don't need the crimping tool. Universal pliers should work.
jetdriven Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 I think weatherpak connectors would be fine as well. These have a locking tab and the ribbed rubber seal on the female plug.

laytonl Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 I ran wires from the landing light to a point near the oil filler tube so that I can disconnect the wires with just the top cowl off. I used a two-terminal connector of some sort. I fiberglassed the wires to the interior of the cowling to keep them away from the exhaust risers. All of this done under A&P supervision of course. Lee
