Jim Peace Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Does anyone have a Garmin 300XL that they are feeding into a 406 ELT? Can it be done? Thank you Jim
MB65E Posted September 30, 2014 Report Posted September 30, 2014 Should be just an Rs232 out port. Google the install manual to see what the back shell pin outs are. -Matt
Jim Peace Posted September 30, 2014 Author Report Posted September 30, 2014 I found the install manual easily on the internet. It's all greek to me....I just break them and write checks....don't know much about anything else.... Jim
MB65E Posted September 30, 2014 Report Posted September 30, 2014 I Just looked at the manual, on the J101 connector there is rs232 out and airinc429. Both are means of providing an output to an a device that can receive those channels. Just depends on what ELT you have. The E-04 ELT does have an input for the GPS signal. Some 406 ELTs don't gave the GPS function, so it won't work with those. Beyond that would require an avionics tech... I don't think a tech would have any issues getting it done for you. Half days work to run a few wires... Longer if the ELT needs installed too. Best, -Matt
Jim Peace Posted September 30, 2014 Author Report Posted September 30, 2014 Thank you,,, At least I know my GPS can provide the signal. I am going to get the ACK 406 drop in replacement. It does have a GPS input. Without it it can take a long time for SAR to find you even though it is a 406. I hate spending more money on this new to me M20C but safety first.
