I guess I live close to an airway for jets coming in from the West. I only notice them in the evening, and that is why I am asking a question. In the evening, the planes all turn from west to south, south west. Just as they are about to turn, mostly all, but not all, turn on a forward bright light. They keep it on for as far as I can visibly see the plane. I don't think they are going to San Antonio, but maybe they are. No, I haven't looked as to what airway it is.... :)

Partly it's the airspace, too. Climbing out of Newark in a Dash 8 last night, the landing lights must have been on for15 minutes. Landing at Dulles they were used a shorter time; landing at CRW, I could swear the lights were turned on well inside the FAF but before short final. Of course that was a different Dash & crew, too, but the same airline--maybe it's partly crew preference?

David,

If you're south of Kerrville, then you might be seeing the jets on the Centerpoint One Arrival. Centerpoint (CSI) is located just SSW of Kerrville, TX. Jets cross Beney (CSI105013) at 10K.

I think you got it. Center Point is SSW of my position. Where are these planes headed? Seems way to far out of the way if landing in San Antonio. They are turning south so Austin and Dallas are out?
