97 Encore for sale.......low time......well equiped
driller replied to driller's topic in Aircraft Classifieds
Yes. That does work. But with full tanks........682 plus about 70 for tks liquid. That gives you about 150 left for the pilot. That doesn't work for most of us with full tanks. I fill up my tanks and I can take 2 regular sized people almost 1200 miles. My useful load is higher. There are pros and cons both ways and I wouldn't say no to tks if it was already installed. Happy new year pilots thanks curt -
97 Encore for sale.......low time......well equiped

I agree. Wish these could hold a little extra weight and be able to have both tks and long tanks. But I'll always opt for the tanks if I have a choice. If someone is looking for a clean m20k, I'm sure we would entertain reasonable offers. Never know. curt -

Good stuff fellas. Appreciate the comments. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I personally need the long range tanks and could care less for tks due to the extra weight. IMHO....literally......Mooneys should not be flown in icing conditions. I understand that weather changes and surprises pop up all the time. But for me, getting into icing conditions in a Mooney (tks or not) better be an accident and not an intentional flight path. Don't beat me up on this, just my opinion and the way I flight plan. I've been flying turbo Mooneys since 1985 and have never owned a non turbo. I could be wrong, but I was always led to believe that the short flights in turbo aircraft do more damage to the longevity of the motor than long flights. This bird has been kept immaculate with very thorough annuals with the last having a bore scope inserted everywhere possible to look for any corrosion. It has been in Wisconsin most of its life in a conditioned hangar with almost zero humidity. It really does show like new. Even the knobs on the panel show little to no wear. When I made the purchase I had the same concerns that you all do about a low houred plane. I had a Mooney service center in Chicago tear everything possible off the plane during the inspection. Nothing in the fuselage or wings. The only thing he could find was a small compression leak on the #3 exhaust valve. So I had him put a new cylinder on it. While it was off he got a pretty good look at the cam which also showed no corrosion. This was enough to sell me, and I'm a very picky person. I do appreciate the comments. curt -

Definately not here to shoot any messangers. I would have to argue that 180k is high 252 pricing and this bird is 10 years newer with much better equipment and upgrades. It shows like new and no corrosion inside the motor. Crank AD has been complied with. The GTN 750 was 17K installed. Garmin and the long range tanks are 23K in added options. Would'nt these account for any price increase? I use it for commutting between Indy and south Florida with occational local fun. I'm usually up between 15 and 19 thou on my runs depending on the winds. It definately likes it up there. -
I posted this a few months back. Getting more serious now. I'm in a partnership with another mooney and would like some good feedback on a realistic price for the Encore. I haven't seen any other Encores for sale for a couple months. Not sure if those were sold or just taken off the market. A friend of mine has the Encore on the Controller. Let me know what you guys think. thanks 97' 555 ttsn Good compressions Annual due next Nov 2015 Long range tanks All the normal avionics including a recent GTN 750 install New composite O2 tank. Paint 9 Interior 9 Northern aircraft but I have it in Boca Raton right now for the winter No corrosion anywhere

My thoughts, prayers, and best wishes go out to all involved. This hits home pretty hard. I volunteer at Greenwood airport and was out mowing around the hangars when they went down. I did not know Bill that much but wish his family all the best it can be. I don't believe that I have ever met Mike, but know from experience that he is at one of the best trauma hospitals in the country. Speedy recovery Mike! Curt

Nice plane. It's all about what you do and where you do it to determine whether it is a needed extra cost. Flying between 15 and 22 thou doing 210kts at 12.7 gal per hour over the weather is worth the cost and "risk"? Getting on top of the weather is most certainly worth it. Losing a cylinder in any plane will be a different story. It's all about your intended mission. I recently had an opportunity to get in on an O and turned it down because of where I enjoy flying. UP high. curt

Appreciate the help. I passed on the partnership offer. Turbo is a priority for me and it's going to be hard to beat the performance of the Encore. Wife is going to have to wait a while for a boat. Might have to put the feelers out for a partner and see where it leads me. Last flight down. 4.5 hrs. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N413ZM curt

Not sure if we have met. I see the others often. I'm down in Florida for the season right now and no on Ken's Ovation. Any fly-ins this weekend down here? Went to Key West a couple days ago. Great weather down there. curt

Yes, I'm up above 12000 most of the time on my trips back and forth. Usually between 15-18. But I'm also probably not using the plane enough to justify sole ownership. I was approached on the partnership which led me to do some thinking and investigating. The non turbo was the first question I had. I'm averaging about 70 hrs per year. No time or motor issues with the Encore. TT540. All cylinders strong. My only real thinking about a change comes from my wife with her elbow in my ribs. She wants a boat. curt

Hi all. I don't post much on here but I'm certainly an active reader. Good news..... I'm contemplating an offer I received to become a partner on a 2006 Ovation. Bad news.... I would have to put the Encore up for sale in order to do this. I love the Encore. Anyone had any similar experiences bumping up they could share? thanks curt

I don't have that info, but I would doubt it. I've seen 9 up for sale over the last 3 years and none of those were Rockets. Seems to me it would be a little more economical to convert an older 252. ?? curt

33 to be exact. I have a list of every Encore built and a detailed history of how they came to be from Mooney. The first 13..............25-2000 to 25-2012 were originally 252's. Once the converstion was approved by FAA around Nov. 1997, those 13 were brought back to the factory for the upgrade. 25-2013 was the first Encore to leave the factory as built. 25-2032 was the last. curt

Congrats on the buy. Sorry I didn't see this sooner. Love the Encore.

I've had my Encore for a year now and have logged almost 100 hours in it. I'm obviously biased, but it was a great decision. Love it. Wouldn't change a thing. curt

What kind of performace are you seeing with the 3-blade prop? vs. 2-blade. curt

It definately seems like you've already made up your mind. However, this is the list of planes I've owned over the years. 172, 172 cutlass, piper arrow 3, 72 310Q, 75 310R, 76 340A, 81 Mooney 231, and now a 97 252 Encore. I've never owned a Beech, but in my opinion, the 172 is by far the best to do your training and the Mooney K model is the best I've ever flown. The worst by far was the piper. Not bashing piper, but it felt like a little boat and was very unresponsive. I sold it after about 10 hours in it. Take it for what it's worth. curt

I was based out of Livermore in the late 80's. Did my initial training in Tracy and got my instrument and multi in Livermore. I use to have the same thinking that I could commute from Klvk to Ukiah via private aircraft. Boy was I mistaken. Never happen regularly in the bay area without an instrument rating. I also remember being on the hangar waiting list for 3 years before I got into one. And that was in 1987. If I were you, I'd buy a 172 and fly the crap out of it and get your ratings. If you have any trouble getting these or decide to give up you're not out the big bucks. While your doing this you will have the time to truely investigate what the best fit will be in a more advanced aircraft. curt

Your instructor took you up in the Rocket or am I reading this right? I would certainly do some homework before you make a big decision on purchasing a high performance aircraft.

Think of it as a sports car, and if "fast and efficient" is your goal, you will not find anything better. Come to think of it, I was the front seat of a Malibu Mirage the other day and the Mooney has more headroom and your knees aren't in your chest. I'm 6' and the Malibu was very uncomfortable for me.

Very glad to hear everyone is ok. curt KHFY

X2. Also, I was told that the gear is the beefier Bravo version starting with the 2013 serial number to go along with the useful load increase. However, I have not been able to confirm this.
