  1. Hi Ross, Thanks for the post. I'm in Charlotte, NC.
  2. Hi All, I looks like overhaul is my only option .... Looking for advice on a shop (IO-360 A1A model) ...currently considering Pen Yan, Zephyr & Triad. Also thoughts on Cylinders (overhauled vs nickel, vs factory new)? Thanks very much! Jim
  3. My engine was lightly flown for a few years after the overhaul... Consequently I was forced into another overhaul at 700 hours because the cam was slightly pitted ans started making metal after I had flown it 500 hours
  4. One more question, can I get your thoughts on the cylinders? New, nickel or remanufactured? Not sure which direction is prudent?
  5. Most of my flights are > 1.5 hours and probably average ~3 hours @ ~ 9K feet
  6. UPDATE- OK, here is where we are 1) #3 & #4 cyls had low compression so we pulled the cyls 2) Metal was coming from the cam and it was pitted 3) cyls were worn so badly by the metal the even the cross hatches had been worn off one cyl 4) engine had 700 hours from a 2005 rebuild...presumably there was some rust on the cam from inactivity after the rebuild? I bought the plane with 200 hours and I've flown 600of the 800 hours in the last 3 years 5) All this happened within the last 50 hours as there was no metal in my filter at the last oil change...During these 50 hours I've flown to the Eastern Bahamas and across Lake Michigan! Yikes I am guessing nothing but a rebuild is in my future...... Any ideas? Thanks, Jim
  7. Thanks all..... I'll check my log books, but should be ~900 hours and my filter was clean in my last annual in Jan, believe my engine is the A1A.
  8. Hi All, On an oil change today my trusted a&p noticed steel in oil filter of my mooney . Any advice on the overhaul? It's been making metal for <50 hours since that was my last oil change and filter inspection. Thanks, Jim
  9. I've flown my F model mooney about 700 hours (most of which was out of a 2400' strip with trees on 3 sides) so Thanks Jim as my pilot self esteem just went through the roof! But having said that, come in 5 kts fast and you will never get it down. I've got time in F,E,201 models and they are stable paltforms that force you to fly the numbers very neatly.
  10. I suggest an E or F model. However I would finsih my private in a Cessna, then transition to a Mooney.... I also suggest finding one with a Johnson bar instead of electric gear.
  11. Great Job David and good luck!
  12. Looksgreat! Please keep us in the loop as I'd love to buy one.
  13. Holy Cow, at least thepilot looked OK when he got out. Anyone know what the airport is?
  14. Hello, Can you please tell me what you are aksing for the KA 134? Thanks, Jim
  15. I'll try to make it from UZA
  16. I paid $1,000 and I think it's the best money I have ever spent on my airplane. The headset is really comfrotable on my head and my girlfriends as well (her head is a fraction of the size of mine). She tried it on in flight, looked at me said "amazing, when are you gettting mine"!
  17. The Sales MGR Heath Lawson, really good guy. Just let him know that you talked to me and he will proabably honor the same deal. Heath Lawson AKG Aviation heath@aviationinmarketing.com Cheers! Jim
  18. Marauder, They are just rolling them out, I can post the U.S. Sales Manager's number if you'd like. I just ordred a second heaset from them. Cheers! Jim
  19. Hi All, I just purchased a new AV100 for my F model at Sun N Fun (which was quite a leap of faith as I was planning to purchase a new Bose). I spent a great deal of time comparing all the differnt ANR headsets like you can only do at Sunfun/Oshkosh. After doing my homwork and comparing everything I decided to try the Av100 and in point of fact they gave me a 30 day retrun option in case I did not like them. Needless to say this is the best purchase I have made in 20 years of flying! The ANR and passive noise reduction are outstanding, but the sound quality is well beyond anything availble. This becsue Harmon makes all kinds of high end recording studio equipment. Leveled off in cruise with the bluetooth playing is like being on a quiet beach with earbuds. I HIGHLY reccomend this headset above anything else I have ever used.. Just thought I would pass this along to my fellow mooney drivers.
  20. I had an A&P buddy with an e model that did all hisown work... the only job that he never finished was sraping his tanks.... After 3 days he decided it was almost impossible and purchased bladders
  21. I'm based at CLT and the controllers are great!!
  22. John, What a great gesture..... I wish I did business with such persons on a regular basis!
  23. Does anyone know about the date for Burlington NC? Thanks very much, Jim
  24. Robert, Welll done making it out.... Eveyone on here has made poor decisions while building hours. Never feel badly about canceling a flight, I have +1200 hours and an instrument rating and still canel flights ona regular basis whenever I don't feel PERFECTLY comfortable with any aspect of the flight.
