  1. Excellent Dave. I look forward to hearing the outcome. Thanks, Bill
  2. I am interested in the switch covers only. Any chance they are available? I called Mooney. No joy.
  3. I use a Powertow KeyEZ. As with almost anything there are pros and cons. Cons: It's expensive @ 1800.00 You can't take it with you. You have to lift it to change direction while towing. On a polished concrete hangar floor, the drive wheel slips easily. (Chains would mark the floor) I don't live in snow country in the winter so I can't tell you about how it works in snow and ice, although I'm sure the optional tire chain works well. The key position down on the battery box requires you to bend down to start/stop the engine. (I moved my switch up near the handlebars. No more bending. Pros: It is a quality piece of equipment. Made in the USA. It has never failed me. I use aviation fuel in it so I don't worry about ethanol while it's stored. My back has never felt better since leaving my tow bar in the storage compartment. (But that would probably be with any towbar you choose.)
  4. Wow! Thank you so much for your recommendations. Looks like there's some good choices. Thanks again everyone, Bill
  5. I'll be heading to Florida from the Northeast next week. I was wondering if anyone had found a nice airport in coastal North Carolina they could recommend. Fuel, of course, is a must. Controlled airspace or not. Good food on or near the field would be a big plus. Thanks for any input. Bill
  6. Update......brought my M20J to Infinity for "dual" on preloading the landing gear. I worked with Joe Gardner. He is more than experienced working with Mooneys. He's been to the factory many times and is VERY familiar with all aspects of our airplanes. I would highly recommend him for anyone interested in finding an accomplished mechanic in the Northeast to service their Mooney.
  7. Hi John, Thanks for the reply. I've got an M20J. I'm an A&P and usually do the annuals on my own airplane but the Mooney is new to me. I was interested in working with a qualified and experienced mechanic who has done things to the Mooney that I haven't experienced, like checking the preload on the landing gear, etc... I bought the required tools and have all the manuals but I'd rather "see and do" than read a manual. I spoke with Infinity and they are willing to give me some "dual" on rigging the gear. I was just wondering if anyone had experience with them they would like to share. Where in MA are you?I grew up there and got my private in 1969 at Hanscom Field before becoming a military pilot. I live in Maine now since retiring from the airlines. Thanks again, Bill
  8. Has anyone used Infinity in Nashua, NH? Were you happy with the service and price? Thanks.
  9. Well, I flew today doing three takoffs and landings. I found the trim indicator was off by a 1/2" as I thought. With the trim set to the new UP elevator position the airplane rotates perfectly. I can now lift the nosewheel to takeoff attitude and climb out without the heavy force required previously. At gear retaction, the speed is climbing steadily with no tendency to over rotate. Minimum trim is needed during the flap retaction schedule. It is now a joy to fly and my arm is getting a much needed rest. To Hank: My POH does not have the notation your POH has. Thanks for your response. Thanks for all the input, Bill
  10. Yes, the trim does go to full up and down according to the indicator. After tomorrows flight I will make notes of the position necessary for proper trim position and adjust the indicator accordingly. The way it is now is just not normal. In the green band, you have to pull too hard to rotate. It would be much safer to be able to set the trim in the green band as specified in the POH instead of ballparking the takeoff trim. And yes, I'm aware that the trim does not move the elevators. Thanks, Bill
  11. Hi guys, I've noticed that it takes a lot of back pressure to rotate my (new to me) M20J for takeoff. I usually fly solo and set the trim to the top of the green band. It still takes too much backpressure to rotate. Today in the hangar, I looked at the elevator while sitting in the copilots seat. With the trim set, I looked at the elevator and noticed it was in the down trim position by about 10-15 degrees. Moving the trim switch to the 'up' position to zero out the trim to where I believe the trim should be set for takeoff, the trim indicator was about 1/2" above the green band. I have flown other Mooneys in the past but don't remember having to apply so much pressure to rotate. It would appear the indicator is inaccurate. The airplane is rigged correctly and flys perfectly. Tomorrow I'll make notes as to what the trim indicates in cruise. Has anyone else noticed this condition in their 201? What is your elevator position when set to the top of the green band? What does the trim indicator show when flying solo in cruise? Thanks, Bill
  12. Congratulations Steve!!! I'm a new Mooney owner too and I know your going to love yours as much as I do mine. Best wishes, Bill
  13. Mike, I just replaced my last Hoskins power supply with a Whelen on my 79J. The part number your looking for is an A610 strobe bulb. I got mine from AC Spruce. You have to swap two of the wires to match the Hoskins power supply. A tool to do this is available at Radio Shack. Hope this helps.
  14. Thanks for the reply guys. And thank you Mike for the photo offer. I hope it's not putting you out. I look forward to seeing it. Bill P.S. To N601RX, I did not get a manual for the installation for the transducer. I'll give a call to JPI to see if they have one. Thanks. Bill
  15. I bought a JPI FS-450 for my '79 201. (During the rebate of course!) Would anyone like to share how they installed the transducer? Did you attach it to the 'spider' at the top of the engine and did you use any additional support? As usual, a picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks for any help.
  16. FYI: For those looking for a Hoskins 701295-3B strobe power supply, there are three for sale on ebay. He's asking 100.00 each. They are yellow tagged. Item number: 320838578584
  17. I just noticed your in Florida. You might also try Cole Aviation in Rome, GA. 706-295-4353. I haven't done business with them but have heard of others on this website who have with good results.
  18. There are two places I have been doing business with and have been very helpful. Lasar in California (www.lasar.com) 800-954-5619 and Southwest Texas Aviation (www.swta.net) 800-749-7982. Good luck, Bill
  19. Can anyone recommend a good product for removing cloudiness from my side windows? Thanks, Bill
  20. Would anyone know where I can get the decal for the annunciator panel on my M20J/201? Serial #24-0767. The cover is bent slightly so I was going to make a new one. I would even buy the complete faceplate if the cost was reasonable. Thanks for any leads, Bill
  21. Thank you OR75. The picture is a great help since it was not attached by the previous mechanic(s). BillC
  22. I removed the cowling from my 1979 201 today. On the right side of the firewall just above where the right cowl flap is located, there is a spring attached to the firewall. It was just hanging down not connected to anything. It looks like it may have been placed there to hook onto the cowl flap attach point to assist in holding the cowl flap closed. My Mooney parts and service manual does not show this spring. Should it be there? Has anyone else seen this spring? Was it a modification placed there because the low pressure area under the cowl pulls the cowl flaps open in flight? Before I close up the cowl I'm wondering if I should attach it where I think it was or eliminate it. Thanks for your input. BillC
  23. Thanks so much for all the help guys. To OR75: I'm going to take your advise and start with cleaning the glareshield bulbs. Both rheostats are working properly. Thank you. To danb: I didn't notice over the shoulder lights but I'll check tomorrow. Thank you. To 'a': Thanks for the tip on doing a search on the forum. I'll check it out now. Thank you This forum is great!! Having you guys to ask for advice is an incredible benefit to me as I'm sure it is to all of you . And by the way......I LOVE THIS MOONEY!!!! Should have done it years ago. Thanks again, Bill
  24. Thanks FlyDave but I know about the individual post lights. No picture necessary. Mine also has the two knobs to adjust the light intensity. Both work fine but unfortunately, none of the 6 pack instruments are lighted. Seems odd that there aren't any. I guess I'll figure something out. I would like to see the 'L' shaped lights pilot716 and Mooniac were talking about though. Thanks for the help. Bill
  25. I don't have these 'L' shaped lights your talking about. Any chance I could get a photo? Again, thanks so much for the responses. Bill
