I am late to the party but glad to be invited. Mooneyspace is an extremly valuable asset to me and others. Even met a few people personally based upon like planes, interests, and hobbies. If you need more, please let us know. This is the only post where there is a 100% agreement. Ron

I have decided to spend a little time this summer to inspect and overhaul my exhaust system in my Mooney Rocket. The turbo charger has already been sent off but as for the exhaust manifold and tubes, which repair shop does anyone have experience with that they could recommend for quality of work. Thanks

I have a GTN 750 in my Rocket and its ease of use, Touch Screen capabilities, high screen resolution, and more importantly the newest technology of the Garmin series insures its continued support, availability, and safety for at least the next 9 years. The 430 and 530 series is no longer manufactured and will be outdated in the coming years. Both will do what you require, but the new generation will be better supported by the manufactures and aviation community in the future.

Perfect EGT. I agree with you I think it is the probes and will purchase one from JPI as a direct link to the 830.

32 - 33 GPH exactly. Again everything is good except TIT.

For about a month I have been experiencing higher than normal TIT temperatures on my TSIO-520-NB rocket Engine in cruise or cruise climb with the mixture full rich. The lowest TIT temperatures in cruise climb and cruise is around 1530. At a typical cruise setting of say 71% power (2300 RPM, 31 in MAP) 189 knots my TIT is reading 1550 which is about normal. What concerns me is that this setting is with the mixture full rich! Yet at this setting, the GPH, EGT, CHT, and all other parameters appear normal (19.6 gph). However, the mixture is full rich and there is no room for further enrichening the mixture for cooling or climbing. Could this be the TIT probe or gauge (it has a new JPI 830 but with the old ship TIT probe calibrated to this) or mechanical issues with the mixture controls, fuel pump or injectors. I have had the mixture settings adjusted twice according to the Continental service bulletin and makes no difference. Any help is definitely appreciated. Thanks.

On my 1980 231 I have noticed that intermittently not always) when the elevator trim switch is turned on during start up procedures, a warning horn goes off and stays on as long as this switch is in the on position. The plane flies fine, the KFC 200 autopilot is fine, the elevator trim operates well, it just that the horn won't go off until the switch is turned off. I think it might be the landing gear warning horn blaring but I'm not sure. Any ideas? Rocketman

Check out page 23 from the archives of Flying Magazine from August 1963 about the Fixed gear Mooney Master. Are there any non-converted Masters still around? And while your at it check out the article about Mooney on page 48. http://books.google.com/books?id=Fa65gSOSKioC&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false

EMERGENCY AD ISSUED TODAY ON M20TN and M20R
rocketman replied to rocketman's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
This AD is 2012-03-52 and effects the M20TN serial numbers 29-0465 through 29-0519 and the M20TN seriual numbers 31-0003 through 31-0127. The AD is a result of a M20TN loosing pitch control immediately after take off requiring both the pilot and copilot to push with their knees to prevent stalling the airplane. -
Welcome aboard. See my PM. Very interested in sharing information since we are both brand new Mooney Rocket owners

Quote: sapientia I will be in the same boat in a few months as I will be considering a Mooney purchase but want to get a feel for one before I make the decision. There is a place out in Las Vegas that rents a Mooney Rocket. When the time comes I may go out there to fly it since a Rocket is my first choice.

Try this knee holder. Easy to use and inexpensive. http://www.kneedock.com/

What makes you think that (1) these are the wishes of the majority, (2) you are the arbiter of the wishes of the majority, or (3) the wishes of the majority are relevant to a privately-operated board? It's Craig's site, so his policy controls. However, if his policy prohibits threads warning other users about poor mx experiences, I think it would be helpful if that were clarified, as I don't recall seeing it clearly stated anywhere. Yes it is Craigs site and he deleted this thread once before. If one has a complaint say it once. If done over and over, its retributon or vengence and I assume nobody really wants here.

psjny78. There is a reason why your posts are deleted. The administrator of Mooneyspace is very wise to not let this "arena" deteriorate to "Topix" like discussions to vent frustrations and ill will. If everyone was allowed to post negative comments as you have so frequently under so many headings, this would be nothing less than a frustrated populace of political minded agendas to oust opponents with disagreements. Please stop posting anti-Cole statements. Your mission is accomplished. There are other posts you have started with enjoyment and enthusiasm by others. Stick to these and find out what Monneyspace people are about. Were not about trashing, destroying, and elimination. Were about building our small numbered airplane owners to be better more cost efficient and safer. If you want to continue trashing, please register and post on Topix. This is where you need to be for repeated incinderary comments. I want to learn about my plane, not about your isolated once in a life time experience with one MSC, good or bad. And for what its worth, I am not a strong supporter for Joey Cole. I have had work done there and it was done well and professional, but way to expensive. I am not his follower, nor am I his hostile evil slayer to destroy him because of one bad experience. Because you constantly post negative comments does not make him any worse off than any other MSC. Each and everyone of them would likely have people like you that would like to publicly berate them because of a bad experience. But they don't. Please respect the wishes of the majority and move on to other topics (not Topix) that we all enjoy learning about.

For what its worth - it takes a grain of salt to condemn or criticize especially when you have a bad outcome (service, cost, time etc) but it takes a huge PR drive to reverse the effects of a few critical remarks. The recent threads about Cole Aviation is just not fair to someone who devotes his entire life trying to help the few of us Mooney owners in the Southeast. I doubt there is any one MSC that has not had one complaint from an unhappy customer. Please don't use this forum as a Topix posting. If you do, I will leave as well as many others who don't appreciate cheap trashing bantering.

Until you figure out where 17 gallons has disappeared without an obvious trace, please don't fly the plane. 17 gallons does NOT disappear without a cause. Even after 3 weeks, there would be a very obvious odor of 100LL in the plane if it just puddled in the dependent location. Question, was the plane left outside in an unsecured location?

If you want the best of the best, contact Victor Aviation and get the Black Edition. It might cost you a few extra dollars but its definitely worth the extra cost for all the extras they put into the engine. -
New idea for anti-icing and anti-corrosion
rocketman replied to rocketman's topic in General Mooney Talk
Besides the benefits of the anticorrosion and icing, The wing would be more slippery reducing induced drag on the wing and maybe increasing airspeed. The company has also stated on their web site that this product lasts for a long time on any surface despite washing and repeated attempts to wash or dissolve it sans scraping it off. What possibilities! The only product the company has made with this coating is a toilet plunger which I cannot find anywhere. -
This new compound has very unique properties that might have some benefits as a powerful anti hydrophilic compound that repels water and other solutions. Think about the possibilities of applying this to the leading edge to prevent icing or spraying this into the plane in place of ACF-50 or Corrosion-X to prevent corrosion. Anybody know about this product? http://neverwet.com/index.php This is from the EAA website: http://eaa.org/news/2011/2011-11-23_neverwet.asp

Question - what are the STC requirments of maintaining the ship TIT, CDT, and Fuel Flow gauges when these guages are being replaced with the same information and probes on a JPI 830 install. I am currently upgradeing many instruments and radio's on my M20K Rocket and my installer feels that these need to be maintained. Thanks for your help.

Seattle Avionics Black Friday sale
rocketman replied to kgbpost's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Bought it! Thanks -
From Kelly Aerospace is a new electric De-icing system certified for Columbia and Cirrus. The concept of a heated electric graphite pad that can be bonded to the leading edges of the Mooney wing seems like a simpiler, less corrosive, and less costly alternative than the TKS system. I don't know much about Kelly Aerospace, but if the certification process is not too difficult and the install numbers work out, I would think that there would be enough after market plane owners willing to make the purchase. http://www.kellyaerospace.com/thermalsystems/thermawing_aircraft_deice.html

I absolutely agree with the gentleman from Portland. My plane unfortunately had no wired GPS. NADA. Not a GNS 430 or 530. Not even the early King GPS. My option was wither an outdated 530W for a few thousand less for obsolescence or spending a bit more for future value on a GTN 750. In the long run, new tech will be the winner.

Yes. It is being re-weighed because I am a stickler on performance numbers, weights and balance, and avionics. And the re-weight figure is only $300. I'll let you know if the available weights improve or decrease.
