Quote: Bnicolette I also would like to hear of a shop/mechanic that overlooked things especially to the extent that somebodies life was put in danger. I for one like to read accounts of peoples close calls (Never Again, articles) or accident reports as it helps me learn. I think that psjny78 had good intentions with his account of what happened to him. I have no doubt that if that happened to me I would let the Mooney community know of that situation. Absolutely, everybody makes mistakes but when you pay for an annual and certain things are to be checked, I expect those things to be checked well. I don't want somebody that is just "checking the boxes". We all know that there are going to be problems between shops and owners from time to time, but I think negligent things should be disclosed on a factual basis. I can't imagine somebody about to take their airplane in for maintenance and not wanting to know if that shop has mis-managed some one else's maintenance event to the extent that an accident was possible because of it? BTW, I also would like to know of good service as well.

Hopefully this is not an issue. I just noticed fuel stains on my fuel injectors just below, what appears to be vents on the injectors. Not too familiar with the engineering of the injectors and not sure if they are original lycoming or GAMI. Probably original. Anyway, I did notice fuel percolating from these vents immediately after shutdown. Is this an issue?

What are aerostar mooney's? 200,201 and 220?
mooneym20d replied to anAscendancy's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Thanks for the comps. The shoulder harnesses are next on the list. Pretty easy installation, it appaears. -
I did. They were initially sealed so they had to strip that section of the lower rib to ensure they were open. Yet another example of an MSC that should have remedial training.
-
IMO, the only thing that would render the work unairworthy would be the inability to sample fuel from the sealed tank. When I mentioned this to the shop, they said it was debris and that I would have to pay $35 for a new sump drain and one hour labor. The drain was new to begin with. It was sealed. I have retained a lawyer and I'm considering my options. I set up a meeting with the shop for tomorrow afternoon.

I have a brand new cowl flap cable for sale. I was going to install it, but I was able to free mine up. I paid $350 to LASAR. I will let it go for $300.

Okay then. It will stay, forever. -
I'm on. I know of four other mooney owners on my field. I don't think they are even members of this forum. Very unfortunate. There is a wealth of information here!

I wasn't a fan of the hook tail either and actually considered having it removed. When it came down to it, I decided to keep the plane as is. It has grown on me. The plane gets stares everywhere I go. I like the rarity. I wish I could claim it makes the plane faster, but I can't. -
We should be proud of this legacy we will pass on to our kids. We are that shining city on the hill. The beacon of hope. I hear ya! Unfortunately, I live in the Communist Republic of Massachusetts. This place is a mecca for progressives and anyone else who thinks the gov't needs to have it's hand in every aspect of everyone's lives. We were the first to get gov't mandated health insurance. Thanks, Mitt!! My premiums went up 75% in the last two years.

I had a '63 M20D many years ago. Also, so many Mooney owners out there, "D" was all that was available. Jim -
Buying a Mooney that wasn't hangared
mooneym20d replied to NotarPilot's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
My plane sat in the Danbury, CT area for over 15 yrs without moving an inch. I bought it with the cash I could hold in my pocket. I was expecting to do major frame repairs and aluminum work. I tore the plane down just short of removing the wings and had every inch examined for corrosion and rust. There was a very small amount on the steel attach point for the tail cone. The rust was removed with a wire brush, zinc chromated and painted. Even the tanks were clean. The engine was pickled with MMO. After a tear down, I realized that all this tearing down was for piece of mind because the engine looked as though it had 100 hrs on it. In fact, it did. I had to replace the wheels and sent the engine mount out for the gussets. That was it. The control tubes looked as though they had just come from the factory and the heim bearings were spotless. A few bolts and nuts were replaced. I had the plane painted and put leather on the seats and I was on my way. In short, what I thought was going to be a $30,000 restoration turned out to be a diamond in the rough. Yep, 15 yrs in the North East elements. I got lucky. -

Quote: KSMooniac Did it have the funny "stinger" tail? I don't believe there were any factory J (201) models with that tail, although somebody could retrofit one to a J if they had nothing better to do I suppose. -
Three weeks is more than enough time for the fuel to evaporate. Are there any stains in the wheel well? I had a similar situation. Turned out to be leaking from the spar/rib joint at the most inboard and rear part of the tank. I had a local Mooney Service Center do the repair. The bill was $10,000. I got screwed. I would definately make sure you bring it to someone who specializes in Mooney fuel tanks.

I have one. The short bodies were 200's in '71 and became 220's with the long body F. Mine is an E. -
Quote: allsmiles The point is you don't HAVE to jump the fence! We're living in the best country in the world. We enjoy the more freedoms than are available in most other countries. We can get up in the morning and go flying just because we feel like it! America affords us this privilege. All we're asked is to just adhere to some common sense. It's a small price to pay in my opinion!

Quote: DaV8or WOW! You did your conversion in '85 and the plane you used as a donor was built new in '85, but it had corrosion issues in one year or less??!
-
I would be interested in the NE Mooney Fly in as well. Any idea as to when and where?
-
My E was converted in 1985. We used the original parts from a 1985 J that had corrosion issues. All Baffles, entire cowl and attached components (induction, cowl flaps and rigging, etc..) complete exhaust were used. Basically, we used everything but the engine and mount.

Will this work with GEM 602 Probes and harness?

Quote: jetdriven This post reminded me of a lesson I learned long ago. The Better Business Bureau is a great way to research a business and the "proper" forum with which to air a grievance and file a complaint. Let the BBB arbitrate your dispute. If the business doesn't response, then they’ll get bad marks on the BBB’s website. Before I exchange legal tender with a business I'm not familiar with, I make a habit of checking the local BBB website.

Quote: jetdriven So which happens more? Owner trashes shop's reputation or owner gets screwed for ten or twenty grand. I'd like to hear about it. I've heard plenty of owners get robbed.

Closed Cowl Flaps for Quicker Warm Up
mooneym20d replied to 201er's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
The other day, I did a five mile circuit N-S-E-W a few times. I was at 6,500 with 24 inches and 2500 rpm. I leaned aggressively and got an average ground speed 166 kts via the gps. I have a LASAR smooth belly, 201 windshield and every other speed mod known to Mooneys. The initial climb is 1100 fpm at 90 mph indicated. The plane is very light and very fast for a four banger. -
WOW! Look at the climb and descent rate! That has F-15 written all over it. Good for you!
