  1. When I first queried the broker handling my airplane, I got no response after 2 tries so I sent a letter to the owner. I got a call from the owner the day he received the letter and I also heard from the broker. Needless to say the owner was pissed at the broker but we came to an agreement. At least the broker knew I was no tire kicker. In fact, in the airplane world, I've not seen a "tire kicker" All of the calls we got on our previous plane were really interested. i feel, anyone who does not post a price is not interested in selling. BILL
  2. I went to Gettysburg this weekend (Fri - Sun) and purposely left in the moring both days to miss the buildups. I found good weather anywhere NORTH of NC in both directions. Flew at 9000 up and 10000 back. Used my O2 both ways. Smooth as silk except for the first 10-20 mins of the trip up and last 10-20 of the trip back. What a great ride. BILL
  3. My A&P likes Eddie's point gap idea and we will try it tomorrow or Thursday. I'll keep everyone posted. BILL
  4. I'm going to fix the old one and put it in "stocK'. Thanks BILL
  5. Before annual, my M20E started like all the articles indicated. Push in till "running" let out and advance mixtuer. After annual, engine will not "run" until I stop pussing "IN". Then the engine starts and runs right away. I demonstrated this to the A&P today. He is investigating. Given that he had the left mag out for the "94 AD which was done but never logged, something changed. Looking at the schematic, would these symptoms indicate that he swapped the 2 wires on the left mag ? Once running, the mag checks are good and performance is right where it was. Thanks BILL
  6. The only time I removed the seat was to fit an Air Compressor back there. Then I put the seat back and bottom along the pilot side since I'd need them on the way back. For what you need, Just pack it in the available spaces. I'll have a spot at VAC and an tent in the plane if I plan to stay longer than my reservations. Arrice Sunday and plan to leave on Thursday. Bill
  7. I'll be there Sunday thru Thursday wearing my MOONEY hat. BILL
  8. Well I got 3 quotes on insuring my 65 E this year. I wanted to up the coverage to $60K to cover my recent add-ons. I've had AOPA for 9 years (2 in the Mooney) and they have been decent to me. So Here's the quotes: AOPA (Chartis) $1314 AVEMCO ( who I had with AOPA until I got the Mooney and they switched to Chartis) $2281 Falcon (Global) $964 No surprise who I am going with this year.. I've checked all the details regarding pilots covered, non-owned aircraft, etc. So if you're up for a renewal, give Falcon a try.. Online it's easy to request a quote. They reply via email within a day or so. BILL
  9. Perfect for flying over water, e.g Bahamas. In box, With original battery, charger, case and antenna. Mom says got to go.. Free, you ship. Bill GONE !
  10. My CHT of #3 runs hot ONLY above 5000 ft !! Go higher and it goes up, get back to 5K and it's back in line with the others. Tell us what you found ! My A&P is looking at it now while in annual. BILL
  11. You are ONE week too late !! I just bought a new muffler for my annual. BILL
  12. High probability. I had a Sundowner that spent the early life in Aruba. It had corrosion but nothing that was not repairable reasonably. The big issue is that it is re-curring. Every year or 2 you fix something new. BILL
  13. Im arriving on Sunday and will be bringing some "local" stuff in a mason jar. Have to compare it to the Quebec "stuff". I'll be parking in Vintage Camping area and will stay across the street in a condo till Thursday and then I'll camp if the weather and XYL permits. I'll look for you on Sunday Yves. BILL
  14. Here's a few links that I referred to before buying: http://www.mooneypilots.com/mapalog/m20e.html http://www.mooneypilots.com/mapalog/HOT%20STARTS.htm http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/1995/October/1/Mooney-Safety-Review http://www.pilotfriend.com/aircraft%20performance/Mooney/31.htm I also found some magazine reviews of various M20 airplanes that I got an archive issue like AOPA and FLYING . I also agree with CHRISK on all items. I got bladders 18 mos after purchase. I routinely get 20mpg in my Mooney on long trips at 140kts ! BILL
  15. Sorry, the E/F boot is $315, the C boot is c $230. BILL
  16. Thank you guys.. Just ordered it from Southwest ... Will be here on Monday. Had to get a new muffler too this year but we have a local place that gives my mechanic a good deal. That's about all the squaks he found this time. BTW the E/F boot is about $100 more than the C... BILL
  17. My ram air boot is torn and we're looking for a new one for the annual. Anyone have a source for this ? I'll email Mooney too. BILL
  18. Lights are good! I had to land at our airport once without lights and it took 2 trys to line up right. Then when I got to the end of the runway to turn around, the lights came on. Murphy's Law. BILL
  19. Thanks to all who replied.. That's what I thought it might be after looking at it. Found a big crack in the muffler so time to get a new one which will also fix my lack of heat issue last winter. BILL
  20. WOW, thanks to all for the replies, comments and poll activity. Pretty interesting on the variation of responses. Thanks BILL
  21. Plane is in annual and I don't remember why this hose goes no where... Any ideas ? Thanks BILL
  22. I was at a FAAST seminar and Captain Al Haynes was the speaker on CRM. His story was awesome. BILL
  23. Done, good idea Don, Bill
  24. I have not flown my Mooney at night..., yet. Expect to get current over the 4th. BILL
  25. My wife has no interest in flying in my plane although she supports me 100%. She reluctantly flys the BIG JETS ! I was flying before we met and she had a bad experience as a kid flying with a family friend. When we started a family I agreed to take a hiatus from flying until they were out of college. When the youngest was out (Embry Riddle grad, now Piedmont Airlines Pilot), she suddenly said to me, you can go back flying now. 25 years off, I was back in the saddle after 10 hrs of dual and signed off. I bought a Sundowner with another pilot and we had it for 7 years. When he lost his medical, he agreed to sell the plane, which he did. The wife surprised me with, "What are you going to fly now?", I told her I would rent and she said that I should buy a plane that I wanted and enjoy myself. When we went to look at the Mooney, she got no closer than 10 ft, as if it would suck her into it and said "It looks nice". That was 3 years ago now and I've not looked back. I fly mostly either dual for currency or flying dogs for Pilots N Paws with a friend. Most of my long trips are alone visiting friends or relatives. Going to Gettysburg on July 5th to see the re-enactment with my Brother-in-Law (he's driving from Vermont), then Oshkosh. If I had to do it again, I'd marry someone who flew. BILL
