About Me
AVIATION: I've been flying for over 35 years and owned (or had partnership interest) in three Cessnas (two C172s, one C120 - fully restored), two Pipers (one Archer and one Dakota), an LSA (Dova DV-1), and two Mooneys (231 converted to the 261 Trophy mod, and currently a 1983 M20J, with all the major mods). Over the years I've flown to Alaska, many, if not most of the Bahamian islands, the British West Indies, the Dominican Republic, Mexico (mainland and Baja), Canada, and many times across the United States. Also flown in Germany, Tanzania, Kenya, and other countries of Europe and Africa. Air raced (and won both) the 60 mile sprint at Sun and Fun, and the Columbus 500 in the early 1990s late 1980s.
Instrument, Commercial, SEL, SES.
SAILING: Coasts of California, Oregon, Washington, Southern Canada, (British Columbia, Gulf Islands) Northern Mexico (Baja), Chesapeake Bay, Caribbean, and the East Coast of Africa, including South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Pemba, and Kenya. I have owned, cruised, and raced (Bay and ocean) an Islander 30 II since 1974, and owned and cruised a Monk designed trawler for about 12 years to and from Baja. Raced in the SF-Hawaii race some years ago, and crewed aboard a number of large ocean racers. Delivered Grand Banks, Fishers, Tollycraft, Herreshoff's, and other vessels - sail and power up and down the Western coasts. Owned many small one design sailboats - Comet, Laser, Hobie Holder, El Toro, and Montgomery sailboats.
NAVIGATIONAL RESEARCH: The Drake voyage and the Bay Area charting and anchorages, the "Plate of Brass", the voyages of Vancouver, and many years researching the Columbus landfall islands of the Caribbean via aircraft and vessels.
