Thanks PT- I've had had some great results with 3m restoration on car headlights, making it look really ugly before using the finer and finer grits to make it perfect. when the time comes, I'll work on a corner of a rear window to prove the process....

I know the enemy of good is "better" Does anyone have a favorite plexiglass restoration product? My windows are OK, but I would like to make them like new. I have restored car headlights - but I'm curious how others have approached this. Thanks, Rob

forflight let me set the weight, but when it came to the arms, It said " your aircraft has an arm range for the front seats of 34 to 39, we chose 36 " There is no adjustment available on foreflight, and in my POH, the range is 32.75 to 39. Curious how others work with this.
-
Is there a larger version of the moment arm cart to make computing weight and balance easier? FYI- I tried foreflight- hoping to go electronic, but the moment arm for the front seats is inaccurate when compared to the info in the POH and I couldn't figure out how to change their preset. I did not see anything for a J in the download section. Thanks for any thoughts or direction. Rob

How do you get the foreflight instructor discount? Does Garmin offer this too?
-
I just found that my new to me gtn650 has bluetooth out to connect to my ipad. I have just started using foreflight. Does anyone have experience using the two together? Would I be better off using the Garmin Pilot app for simplicity? Thanks, Rob

1980 m20 j noticed fuel smell in cockpit - not outrageous, but noticeable. dissappated quickly.( or I got used to it) no leaks observed anyone else experience this? thanks Rob

Looking for recommendations on favorite electronic checklists for a M20J. would love to have it on my Ipad- any favorite programs ? Thanks, Rob

On the test flight, it felt "normal" but as I am just learning Moonies, not quite sure if it should be better than "normal". No control concerns, and definitely no shimmying in the limited time in plane. Thrilled that the annual is getting done in lieu of a pre-purchase inspection. Rob

Thanks for the sound advice! Rob

1980 M20J Just got his report : "recommended item : Excessive play in nose landing gear when rudder pedals are secured/ blocked" Seems to me that there should be a measurement/ allowance. (What's excessive?) What is the mechanism that allows play? slop in the connecting points of the linkages? Thanks Rob

It seems to me that an education photo guide would be very valuable- I keep thinking back to the Chiltons auto repair guide that had a series of photos of spark plugs each showing different problems. Photos of valves, cylinder walls, cylinder heads in different states of distress and age, compared to "normal for each stage. something like this that is used for Autos

Thanks for the input- I'm not qualified to have an opinion, so rather than blindly accepting the guidance of the inspector, I wanted to see what the group has to say. Engine rebuilt in 2020, has 200 hours on it since. Was told it was flown regularly, and have no reason to question that. The report says "The pictures show some corrosion but all within limits and is not effecting the compression at all. Manufacturers agree that this little amount of corrosion is fine as long as the compression checks are within limits" I'll have more info as we move through this annual. I'm pretty excited. Looking forward to being more than just an armchair member of this group! Rob

So- hoping my first attempt at posting these pictures works. Just received these as part of an annual. Any red flags? approximately 200 hours on the engine. Thanks, Rob

Not sure why an insurance company would reward youth and inexperience.......

I've been using a combination of these approaches- For me, corrosion is the first disqualifier. I do prefer to meet the previous owner. Its fun to learn about their experiences with the airplane, and definitely get a feel for how they have maintained the airplane. At the same time, I completely get that this is a very "sterile" purchase- airframe, engine, propeller, radios, interior all add or subtract value. The reality is that after the purchase, every aspect of care and maintenance will be my responsibility. Rob
-
For any of you who have gone through this multiple times, I would love to learn from your experience- When doing a first visit to a plane you are considering, (assuming log books are good) Do you have a systematic approach to inspecting the aircraft? Curious if there is a "preflight on steroids" approach that anyone has a checklist they would be willing to share. Thanks, Rob

Thank you- love the list, but it wont sort for me, so I get all the models. Great reference

This is perfect. Thank you!

Where could I find a published list of all the AD's and SB's that apply to an M20 J? I just subscribed to the FAA notifications, (should get notified if anything new comes out- but looking for the complete list. Thanks, Rob

I really appreciate all the advice, and especially Pinecones advice about having a good relationship with the optometrist- The one that is making my current first try at progressives really took time to understand what my sight needs were. I only wish I was aware of the Shamir lenses- those sound perfect. Rob
-
So, It's come time for me to upgrade my vision- I'm concerned about the difference in bifocals versus progressive lenses. From my limited time trying bifocals, I like the ability to keep my head straight, and still look down to the side and take advantage of the nearsighted correction. I'm told with progressive lenses, you should always point your nose at what you want to see close up. I'm looking for peoples opinion on flying with both. Since lasik is out for now, I'd love to hear from the experienced. Thanks, Rob

Aircraft is located in Oregon, need to bring it to KSDC near Rochester NY. Dream scenario is to fly back , getting instruction along the way. Rob
