Those toyota headrest look great! Does anyone know if the the early mooneys have the hardpoints for headrest? We have an M20B and it seems that there are mounting points under the cloth for them I just don't want to cut them open to find out.

We're having the same issue with our m20b... Have been running aeroshell 15-50 between 6-6.5 qrts, if we run it with more it just blows out. We are going to try 100w and see if that makes a difference. Already replaced the oil temp sending unit, the bypass valve and the tempature gage, none of them were the culprit. I guess as a last resort I can try flying with 7-8 qrts and see if that helps (probably should have done this first.) Good Luck!

I'll make this short cause I don't think anyone is still following this tread. Finally got the repair made with the lazer mod and went out today for some test landings... Everything works great! Tracks straight down center line. I still have a little shimmy when taxiing, I think that is due to a worn steering arm bushing maybe we'll replace it later.

What actually is wrong with the sender? We had one in the left wing that the float was stuck. After taking it out and cleaning the mechanical arm link with some solvent it works good as new. We had just bought the plane in January and I believe the previous owner left the tanks mostly half empty allowing the sender to dry out.

Ah yes, I still remember the feeling of my first solo 12 yrs ago... It was kinda a somber feeling just after lift off when it hits you, now it's all up to you to get the plane back on the ground. Congratulations!!!

What about a nice 231? They seem like a lot of bang for the buck... If I was looking for a newer bird that would be one I would consider.

Matt, This is so interesting that you are looking at doing this. I was considering the same thing earlier today in order to do a dog rescue. The person arranging the transport of the pooch ended up finding him a ride via ground transportation. I have removed my seat a couple times in order to replace the carpet and some other work. Its fairly easy, just a little tight. I hope the dog enjoys his ride..

It seems to have just started getting this high, I imagine the problem was masked by the colder temps of winter. We purchased the plane in January so this will be my first summer with her. I am going to try a new oil temp sensor and see if that helps. If not we'll try cleaning the oil cooler. Thanks for the help

Lately, in level flight I've been getting oil tempature of 220+ degrees with slighly low pressure running 6 qts of oil and oat of 50 degrees or less. Just replaced the vernatherm valve and that hasn't had any effect. CHT temps seem to be fine at about 350. The oil cooler isn't obstructed and appears to be good. What should my oil temp be? Anyone else experience this proplem?

These are great stories! I am new to mooney flying and already I notice that ATC likes to request I make wide traffic patterns inorder to give the other aircraft in the pattern more spacing. We have a lot of training flights at my home field.

I can relate to a couple of the above posters. I came into Mooney ownership just this year with the purchase of a 1961 m20b. I only had 100hrs tt in your typical Cessna line up and was a little fearful of the transition. I got the experience of my first big cross country picking her up in TN and flying home to UT with an experienced pilot. It's much better eating up the real-estate at 145kts instead of 110. I was worried prior to my first solo that I'd forget to lower the gear so I embedded the checklist "BC-GUMPS" into my head and use this during landing. I admit I am guilty of forgetting to close the cowl flaps during cruise, I imagine this will come with time. I now have logged around 20hrs in the vintage girl and I'm enjoying ever minute of it, I even have withdrawals if I go a week without flying. Honestly! It’s been a much easier transition than I'd imagined...

I am not proud to admit this.. We just did a reseal on the left fuel tank last month, draining the fuel into a plastic container without grounding it or the plane. I didn't even think of it being a hazard. Guess I got lucky as there was no fire... I won't be doing that again!
