  1. Per FAA records, there was a prop stike on a snowbank some time ago. I think the prop and paint job was many years seperated. I'm going to look carefully at that just the same. "New paint" always triggers a flag to me. thx.
  2. Quote: JimR That looks like an extremely desirable J model to me, Bob. Perhaps a bit pricey, though...
  3. Jim and Parker... encouraging responses! Thanks It does have AP... a STEC 55X (big smile) along with a buncha other goodies! (warning... plane porn) http://www.controller.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=1160048 Airframe time is not huge considering it was a trainer - 3150. Glad you pointed that GW increase out... I was just sniffing down that trail. The owner was not aware of the eligibility and he checked his W&B and there's no indication of the increase yet. I think he's going to call Mooney to confirm that it's not been done yet. Current GW is 890 so the increase would be sweet!... but almost too good to be true. The plane is loaded with avionics and is still light. I'm trying to figure out what's missing.
  4. I'm looking at a 1990 201 AT and wondering what the difference is between the regular J and the Advanced Trainer. I see that it cost about $10k less and has "dual brakes; aux power plug; stanby vac; more durable interior. 14V electrical." It seems lighter than an average J of the same year too. Q: Are there significant disadvantages to a 14V system? (a quick scan of the logs shows a lot of landing light replacements) Q: Was there less insulation than the regular J - like (I believe it was) eagle? Q: What other differences are/where there? The first owner was Flight Safety. I believe it has been private owned for the last 6 years / 600 hours. Q: Should I be concerned that it has a training (potential abuse) history? Thanks again in advance for your help.
  5. Adding to that information... The plane has been for sale since at least June 14th. Looking at this... http://www.clearwateraircraft.com/802DW.html ...I'd be willing to bet that the reserve is darn close to 79,900 Also, if you google the tail number you'll also find some detailed history/evaluation for a loan for it a year ago.
  6. Hopefully I'll be looking for a prebuy on a J (w/off an airport 950hrs, 14yrs ago) in the Northwest Georgia area next week. Someplace other than Gann - where it normally gets serviced. Suggestions? Thanks!
  7. Is it possible to fit a couple of full sized mountain bikes in the back of a J model that has split/folding rear seats?
  8. We use a heater like that with our club planes. They are out on the ramp all year in the Northeast. I run the heater (blower) off my car parked next to the plane. It has a 15' cord. Heating time runs between 15 and 30 mins. Air temp of 35-0 degrees. I don't go out if it's below zero... I don't love flying THAT much ;-) Quote: Brooks am i missing some portion of the operation of theese heaters? do you guys carry/procure a seperate battery for this opperation?
  9. Quote: GeorgePerry The grand total for the interior was $7300. « Last edit: Jun 11, 2009 11:14 AM by GeorgePerry» George Perry74 M20F
  10. Quote: clipperskipper Adding up 20J and Ranger time I get over 100 hrs. ATP total time is 8450 with 8000 retract. I should think $70K hull and $300000 liability would cover it, plus I have an umbrella policy of $1m. AOPA can insure this? Thanks!
  11. WOW! Simply wow!
  12. Thanks for the tip! I had dismissed the Eagles becasue I didn't think the 44hp would make much of a difference. I'm very suprised to see that, looking at that article, typical speed of 180 is only a few knots slower than the 300hp Ovation. ..Really Suprised!
  13. I've got the Bose ANR. That was a early priority when taking my PP lessons. ;-) Ok... the 4 vs 6, 3-blade and distance all makes sense. A loaded J is comfortable on the budget, a slightly less loaded R is a very tight streach. I really lean towards the J, but I really don't want ANY (shudda gotten the faster, smother R or Missile) buyers remorse. I'll have ta get in another 201 and see how she flys.
  14. Is the IO-550 significantly smoother than the IO-360? I'm shopping for my first plane/Mooney and I'm trying to decide on a mid-model J or an early model R. I've read a buncha articles reviewing the Ovation and all rave about the smoothness of the engine compared with the 360 in the J I took a flight in a J a couple of weeks ago and noticed quite a bit of vibration. I could actually see the panel vibrating a bit. Before reading those articles, I wrote the vibration off as the prop being out of balance. Maybe not? My only other experience is the 150hp IO-320 in a C-172. I'm sensitive to noise and vibration. It fatigues me seemingly faster than the average person. So this is an important consideration for me. Any light shed will be appreciated.
  15. Quote: GeorgePerry Thank you A LOT for this post. It's a great starter for me - just looking into getting a 201. Question though.. why is this a flag?
  16. Hello! My first post here. I'm looking at purchasing a M20J. On paper, it fits my mission very well. But, before I fully comitt to shopping for one, I'd like to try on on for size. I'm mostly interested in experiencing sight lines, seating postion, cabin width, entry and egress after a flight. I'm based at KPOU and wouldn't mind traveling, say, 150nm to get some left seat time in. Anyone have any ideas where I can rent one (and a CFI)? ~Bob
