  1. I moved Clarence... I moved. Lol
  2. Good post about Acorn. I’m lucky enough that they are only 10 min from my house as I live in Edmonton. I talked to Paul there today and he said they are getting their PMA approval come January and will be able to make complete exhaust systems from scratch and there will be a price reduction in scale once they ramp up production. Great news as no one wants to have to reuse pieces of their old systems anymore. I luckily had a complete spare muffler system that was low time and fully serviceable and went back in the plane yesterday so all is good. I will definitely keep an eye on acorn as they ramp up their production of pma systems.
  3. J Model IO-360-A3B6D this morning when doing oil change and Mag overhaul, no indication on engine monitor of issues. Thoughts to the collective? Luckily I had a full spare system but should I be concerned of a cylinder problem, Acorn welding suspected it might be excessive heat related?? or chalk this up to metal fatigue, I believe its my original exhaust from 1977. (2900 hours on Airframe)
  4. Hey Scott, good luck finding an original glareshield..lol mine was disinigrated and all that was available was the bumped version from a salvage yard and it still wasn't in great shape. Made it work. G5 STC requires the retention but thinking logically you've now got dual g5s with battery backup that have all your flight information the meet the needs of safe flight x 2. x battery backed up etc. so I would completely feel comfortable moving my 3 primarys away and god forbid if I ever was in IFR with losing my 2 G5's, I still have ipad, then I would get out of IFR condition, then glance over to my right and verify my speed and altitude for a VFR landing. does that make sense? Does anyone else agree with this thought process? am I out to lunch? Because what I have now blows the original setup out of the water from 42 years ago. Thanks for that tip with the quadrant and CGR, good point, I'll check the ergonomics of mounting it there and if the quadrant will block the display or not.
  5. Hey Tom....cash. up here in the great white north we are hit with a 35% surcharge called exchange rates. we don't make 35% more than you guys down in the lower 48 so reason stands my $5999 GNC-355 is now $8400 cdn. PMA450B is $3100 cdn. etc etc etc. got a quote to upgrade my panel from garmin dealer with 10" G3X, GFC500, GTN650 etc cost was $72,000 and that's with me assisting. I think I'll be around 24k for my upgrades. Although most of us make decent money to afford these upgrades I'm looking at it as what will get me a fantastic, comfortable VFR machine with the occasional IFR trip. 1 thing I've learned living in the rockies, the normally aspirated mooney is not the best platform for crossing mountains in IFR, icing, turbulence, ceiling limitations with peaks at 12,500 etc. The funny thing is everyone I've personally talked to that's put a G500, G3X in ends up with an Ipad infront of their face anyways. I guess it all depends on mission. dual G5 with Ipad probably works great for 90% of us.
  6. Hey Scott, I upgraded the glareshield and added panel bump 7 years ago when I did resto. I've back and forth on leaving the 6 pack alone, I just bought the second EI engine monitor to add the primary fuel levels and cies probes because we all know the original senders are junk and it allows me to remove the last 2 original fuel level gauges freeing up the top panel bar for removal as well. I've attached a pic of my current setup, (which is a work in progress) of removing old indicators, and vacuum system was already removed. I researched the regs and couldn't find anything that stated exactly where the original 6 pack must be.
  7. Hey guys, here’s my plan C. All components purchased and ready for install. Just wanted to get some feedback before I send the panel file for laser cutting. Note I have 77J so radio stack height with depth is issue. That’s why they are shown lower down. You’ll note my work around to the asi, alt and vsi maintained in dash per G5 stc but if that changes down the road they can be easily removed. dual G5’s stec 30 with gad29b gad13 gnc355 pma450B kx155 gs kt-76( no Ads-b mandate in Canada yet) dual cgr30p/c with cies floats Guardian iPad mini mount running foreflight which will push flight plans to gnc-355 I have thought really hard about what I need to fly ifr and this setup is affordable, realistic and Practical
  8. Wow, as stated quite a difference in bracketry. I’ve got a century trim with S-Tec 30 roll and pitch and looks identical to the last pic. Looks like quite the install to retrofit to the Garmin. I got a quote of 12k plus 30 hours install to add roll pitch and trim to an early J. I thought that was pretty reasonable. What are your guys thoughts on adding the yaw damper while at it. Looks like it might be an easy addition down the road if required but at the same time if your tearing wall panels out and to run new cables it might make sense to do the 4 servos all at once and be done. Just not sure yaw damper is required in a 201?
  9. Hey I’m looking at pulling the trigger for a GFC 500 install in my M20J. Has anyone got any installation pictures with roll/pitch/trim? I’ve got an stec30 now and talking to the avionics shop they will discount the installation if I assist in the process. Thanks all.
  10. Dreams are officially crushed. Sounds like I might be back to the drawing board on this on lol. Thanks Guillaume for the info.
  11. I looked at the physical dimensions of the g1000 displays vs 10.6” G3x displays and they are almost identical. I think your getting newer tech and touch for 1/100 of the cost of a g1000
  12. I was eyeing this option but it’s not remote mount. If you see the pic I posted not any room for a display gnx/gtn. I don’t need the annunciatior panel as my J has just the lights but I thought that would be a great spot for the GFC500 control head down the road. I wonder what some exp guys have done or if all settled on a gtn etc
  13. Ya I wondered about that and it appears the newer birds lowered their panel height. Back to the old height of the j/k. If you look at the 3 round gauges it appears to be similar in height including the glareshield bump up like I’ve got. Width wise it will be fine and the yoke mounts never changed. What’s your thoughts about why it wouldn’t fit?
  14. How do you go wrong for $200
  15. Hey guys. I recently bought a G1000 panel for my J and am thinking about installing dual G3X touch 10’6” displays (now certified) in place of where the 2 G1000 are now. Currently have a CGR-30P I would remove for the Garmin G3x built in engine monitor. I would add: -remote comm -remote ads-b with WAAS gps in/out -pitot AoA sensor -remote audio panel -Gad29b for now and keep s-tec 30 until I can afford gfc500 -my issue is do I need a Nav source anymore. Garmin doesn’t seem to make a remote Nav source that I found. It seems that most airports have gps approaches. I won’t really have the real estate for a gtn-650. And personally would like everything driven through the 2 10” displays I also picked up the matching cct breaker panel What are all your thoughts on my panel modernization idea? Crazy, cool? I’d like some feedback
