  1. The best thing you can do is run it often...and it sounds like you are trying to do just that.
  2. You log book should specify what Part# the airfilter was when it was replaced....go there first and then shop around Aircraft spruce, or any other aircraft parts supplier....
  3. My first question would be "How well does this mechanic know Mooneys?" I'd second what greg said, get some referrals to some good mechanics that know "Mooneys". I'm not suggesting just Mooney Service Centers, I personally use a "Shade Tree Mechanic" but he's owned Mooneys and has been working on planes longer than I've been alive....so he knows his stuff.
  4. I'd agree with parker....although these days the TLS cost just about the same as a good 252, and you get a long body to boot!
  5. Let me know if he decides to sell the plane with the Porsche Engine still in it. I'd love to get my hands on an original one....I shouldn't have passed up the chance I had to get N911GT.
  6. Quote: Greg_D Is it just me or does anyone else think this place is statrting to look like a big advertisement for Mooneyland?
  7. interesting, I've never removed mine before flight....I wonder what it is worth haha 1 knot!!!
  8. You could always step up to a long body Mooney...they might fit in there.
  9. I don't think so, I usually will change only when in gliding distance of an airport. But I crusie high enough that there is almost always an airport within distance.
  10. That is interesting that it overspeed....as long as the engine is turning (whether powered or not) it is creating oil pressure and should have been able to keep the prop at the correct pitch. Did the RPM drop drastically when this occurred?
  11. The pickup line for fuel is about an inch up off the bottom and has a nice screen around the intlet....chances are you won't get sealant giong through your fuel system. But either way I have never run a tank dry, I've always had more fuel than needed.
  12. We all know you secretly want a Rolls Royce on the front of that Mooney of yours
  13. I'm burning about 1qt in 12 hours.
  14. Both of mine are up about 1/2". Next annual I was going to have the rigging checked, but I don't believe it is from "extra play" in the linkages. Due to the fact that we use pushrods as opposed to cables we have very little added play in our controls. And to have an 1 1/2" total slack in there is something to check.
  15. Yup the majority of people who will tell you a Mooney is too small or can't carry anything have never been in one themselves.
  16. Anything longer than about 2 hours and I do a cold start....
  17. Quote: JimR At least in the C model that I fly, takeff flaps make a noticable improvement in that they make it easier to get the gear up before the aeronynamic loads increase to the point of making this difficult. Interesting that that's not an issue for you, Adam. Perhaps it's in the way that the gear is rigged.
  18. No flaps for takeoff unless I'm at/near gross or short field, otherwise I notice no significant difference with the flap setting.
  19. Yeah if you are bouncing you are coming in to fast or flairing to high. Just hold the nose up and let the airspeed bleed off and the plane will "fly" itself onto the runway. Don't try and land a Mooney like you would a cessna
  20. Quote: avcheck I take it yours has been good for the past 40 years. Has it been rebuilt? Is maintenance that much more from normally aspirated birds- M20 or 201 not 231 which in my mind costs more due to engine and equipment alone. I am just trying to get more info and responses. There is yours that appears to say it is good, and ML who says the Lycoming is not set up for it. Maybe Zephro will chime in here too. Your thread was good, just looking for more info from others and the cost factor.
  21. avcheck, I have a thread I start here a while back that when into great detail about my turbo setup on my F model, I'd go there and take a read. If you have any questions after that let me know and I'd be happy to answer them.
