Based on the G100UL fuel leak thread what's your position?

I’m not going to continue this circle talk. You will see how it turns out. -

Based on the G100UL fuel leak thread what's your position?
Aaviationist replied to gabez's topic in General Mooney Talk
Where did the airport or county say you needed to use the fuel in your aircraft? they did not make any claims to performance or compatibility. They simply made it available. the county town or city is in no way responsible for your maintenance issues or fuel choice. this would most likely not be a jury case - it’s civil litigation. still, nobody has provided the information for this 421 that “suffered 600k in damages” -

None of that has to do with putting fuel in an airplane. they made a fuel available, but did not force you to use it. the city and its issues with the FAA have nothing to do with who put what fuel in what airplane. Only what fuel was or was not available. Those issues are not the same. it’s a nothing sandwich. You will see. crashes happen all the time. Nobody goes after the county because of a proper and legal fuel they had available. if I put diesel in my car, that’s for me to know if it’s compatible or not. The gas station (or airport) is a point of sale - nothing more. I also fail to see how a fuel could cost 600k in damages. I haven’t seen any information about this 421, but it doesn’t make a ton of sense. even if it requires brand new engines, that doesn’t equal 600k. it’s still just the same 3 people in this thread making extremist arguments that don’t really match reality or how the legal system works. -

Anyone can sue for anything they want. None of it matters until someone wins or loses. I suspect if they do sue, at least the government side of this gets thrown out. again, nothing sandwich. I’d also like to see where insurance is coving this and what exactly the damage is. -

Another nothing sandwich. there is no requirement to stop the sale of Gami fuel. The FAA decision was about he previous stop of sale of 100ll. NOT the beginning of sale or continuation of availability of e Gami fuel. selling fuel that the FAA deems compatible with aircraft is not in any way the liability of the state, county, town, or airport. The determination of the safe operation of an aircraft is the responsibility of owner and or PIC. -

Volts dropping mid flight on my 1985 201 (14v)
Aaviationist replied to cyrill's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Well, that’s what the field does. there are about a half dozen reasons this could be happening. Stop flying with faulty equipment and get someone knowledgeable in electrical systems to look at it. -
It’s not being a Karen when you are just stating facts. The experience of other in this thread show this unit has limitations, and you seem fine with operating WELL outside of those limitations both expressed by the manufacturer AND others in this thread. do what you want, just don’t crash into MY house.

ADS-B for 1984 M20J with original equipment
Aaviationist replied to Beard's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I’d go for the lynx or the 345. You should think about what future upgrades may be and get something you know will be compatible with potential future plans. I would NOT stick with the original and a sky beacon. -
You need to ask a mechanic and or prop shop what you need. “an ovation propeller” is not a part number, won’t appear in the TCDS or any STC paperwork.

I don’t believe we have seen a direct comparison as a real world test in this thread. what we do have is someone that went well into the flight levels, with 2 people, without a mask, and advertised they were still at 90% (or something like that) those are not good numbers and that IS hypoxic. we also know that the most popular sensors tend to be inaccurate at concentrations below 95% so we don’t REALLY know in this example.

115k for a C? that should be your first red flag. There are only a few Cs I have seen that would bring that kind of price, and that doesn’t sound like one of them. The biggest hurdle will be insurance, which again will probably not give you that value. Avemco will probably insure you for up to 80k, but will be expensive. the rest is really based on you.
 -
Is that about how long you have left? I expected based on your comments you’re a crusty, old, cheap, stubborn, curmudgeon, and even though I don’t like you I’d hope you have longer than that!

I have things to do in life. I can’t spend my entire existence on the computer writing messages about mooneys all day. sometimes it takes a minute to catch up.
 -
Well, let’s be clear what happened. You posted an aircraft you bought,(with a questionable prebuy if I remember correctly) which you said spent its entire life inside, but had highly corroded parts that clearly had spent a significant period of time outside. You were getting multiple pints of water in your tanks as a result and from the images there were a few other items that needed correcting. You then posted images that showed a slap on paint job, that was done questionably at best followed by a cable that had clearly been unplugged for a while and painted over. you were encouraged to have someone knowledgeable look over your airplane carefully, as it did not appear to be what you (and the original owner) said it was. Advice you ignored. just so we have the history. And yes, that much water in fuel has killed several if not many.

Funny, I said the same thing about using an oxygen generator above an altitude the manufacturer says it doesn’t support. Funny how you circle talk and argue for whatever suits you on a particular day. whatever makes your maintenance the cheapest and fastest isn’t always the best idea.
 -
A lot of it probably depends on environment. I’m at sea level and it’s in the air conditioned basement of my house. I’ve seen others with units in Colorado only doing 91/92%. When Inogen claims not to use their unit for 2 people above 14k, I believe them.

Mine was outputting 98% when we tested the output of a bottle I had filled.
 -
While we’re here and this is solved, does anyone want to take bets on the ACTUAL airworthiness of Mike’s 50 year old gears/actuator?
 -
It does that itself. The concentrator has a measurement at the output and lights a led. the compressor has a sensor on the input and also an associated led. The compressor will not compress without meeting the threshold for o2 concentration. when I tested mine it was 98%.
 -
There are adaptors for the nipple fitting needed for the compressor. That fitting will go to a cga540 or whatever else you need.
 -
Based on the fact that the case was milled below limits (allegedly, but it looks that way based on the video) I would guess that this shop (if it was a shop) probably cut some other corners and just slapped it together. if all your rods were slightly bent, I think what the mechanic is saying is probably true. If they were all bent I think it’s pretty lucky it made it 800hrs and unfortunately you have now bought this mess of a situation. consider your options carefully.
 -
That’s the one I use with my home Invacare unit to fill my tank. If you can use the Inogen with it that would be a great combo. the nipple adaptors are easy to find. Can fill your bottle every night if you plug it in after landing.
 -
So there is a benefit for the Inogen if you’re a renter, single user, or fly at night and use o2 at lower levels. Plus weight the cost is not cheaper despite what’s been posted here. home fill your own tank units are cheap and easy to come by. one thing I don’t know but I assume isn’t possible is feeding an oxygen compressor from an Inogen? Since it’s pulse I would assume that is not possible.

I look forward to being able to correct your inaccurate dribble unencumbered.
