Aircraft in for annual, thought I only had to do the 100hr lube on the Duke Actuator based on the previous AD Compliance Sheet and previous logs...Come to find out that the last shop that conducted the AD failed to do the 200hr inspection, yet annotated that they did..they did the 100hr lube and annotated that next inspection was in 200 hours. So, tomorrow the actuator will be removed so they can do the inspection, I can only hope that the gears, only being 15 years old, have been properly maintained and lubed over that time...because as you know, if they need to be replaced the aircraft is AOG. On a good note, Don Maxwell was the last Service Center to do the teardown and inspection. Come on Lasar, time to have some gear sets manufactured...had hoped, since we have been working the gear issue for almost a year now, that we would have resolution prior to needing the inspection.. Electric Gear override Switch
Matthew P replied to Matthew P's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
No I haven't...while doing my annual, one of the A&Ps mentioned it as they have only worked on newer mooneys with the switch...So that sparked my interest -
Good Morning, On the newer Mooneys they have an electric gear override switch that allows them to raise the landing gear in the event of aircraft pitot static issue. Has anyone with a Pre-J aircraft modified their aircraft with this type of override switch since the manual retraction is not to be used to raise the gear ? V/r Matt

(Throttle Control) Gear Warning Buzzer
Matthew P replied to Matthew P's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Good evening, I found the switch shortly after buying it as the alarm would go off randomly regardless of throttle position, removed switch, cleaned it then readjusted it...was just looking for info about it as I couldn't find anything in the poh other than the witing diagram..was wanting to see if it mentioned a specific MP setting so when I change out the throttle cable I can make the proper adjustment.. -

Looking for information regarding the Gear Warning Buzzer that is tied to the Throttle Control that goes off if you pull the throttle back below 13" MP, looked in the service manual and POH but don't see it addressed. I do see the information about the buzzer tied to the air switch that will go off if you try to raise the gear below 80 mph. TIA Matt

Weight and Balance graph profiles

Go to this link, I recreated the charts so they are legible -
Thanks, but this has been an exhaustive effort in futility when dealing with the FAA and Mooney, although Mooney has come through and agreed to license the gear sets to LASAR so we will have more options than we do now...as far as if it's a good thing or bad thing that it was licensed to LASAR is still yet to be determined...I've spent 8 months dealing with Mooney, the FAA, DARs, DERs, MROs and so on and so forth, I honestly don't know how ANYTHING gets done, the FAA is lacking in so many areas across the board, medicals are another issue, they are 20 years behind on what meds are used to treat various conditions, meds from 20 years ago are not used today to treat the same things that they were 20 years ago. But that's a different fight...but that's the problem, everything with the FAA is a fight..sorry if I came across as terse, nothing personal, I let my frustration get the better of me... thank you for your time

**EXCELLENT NEWS RECEIVED RE: 40:1 Gear Sets**
Matthew P replied to Matthew P's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
There are no startup costs, or initial setup charges, they are just now licensed by mooney to have them produced...now they may have had to pay mooney a licensing fee, but as far as the parts go...it's at no additional cost, which would be absorbed by the customer..it was going to be $80K for the DER/DAR/PMA/initial mfg setup fee for a rum of 40 gear sets...plus additional monies to a MRO facility and liability insurance...for a community of 150-250 airplanes that are affected by the AD/SB -

LOL, that was my first thought as well...hopefully not though, but with as many OUT OF STOCK items they have, might be looking to make it up in other areas -
**EXCELLENT NEWS RECEIVED RE: 40:1 Gear Sets**
Matthew P replied to Matthew P's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
So, just an update...I spoke with John Smoker (COO) at LASAR who is finalizing a licensing agreement to allow for the manufacturing and sale of the 40:1 Gear Sets. LASAR is currently working with the manufacture to update the licensing agreement so it will take a little time before they can take orders. Mr. Smoker will be contacting me, at a later date, to provide me the information regarding costs, lead times and minimum run requirements and once I receive the news I'll provide an update. I would anticipate that we should hear something within the next 30-45 days. I wish I had more information for you, especially those aircraft that are currently AOG searching for options or those individuals that have already undergone modification to keep their aircraft flying. I've been assured that the cost of the gears will be significantly less than the cost of a used actuator. Also, LASAR is currently working to find a means to have the Actuator Motors repaired, so more good news for those with electric landing gears or those wanting to upgrade to electric landing gears. Once again, would not have been possible without the efforts of Jonny Pollack (CEO, Mooney). V/r matt -

Direct replacement, just different ratio. -
I just got off the phone with Mr. Pollack (Mooney CEO) there IS an agreement that will allow for the manufacture of the 40:1 Gear Sets that we have been hoping/waiting for. The Authorized POC will be contacting me within the next couple of weeks and I will get the cost and timeline information and share with the group as well as the order process. This is GREAT news and wouldn't have been possible without Mr. Pollack's willingness to put in the (unpaid) effort to make this possible. I appreciate everyone patience and encouragement during the process that got us to this point. More to follow once I get more information. V/r Matt
