CO2 detectors the "Good The Bad and The Ugly
tim417 replied to Jpravi8tor's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I have really been happy with the product for the almost two years I have used it. But it has been over a week of no response to any of my numerous emails and phone messages for support. I paid for a calibration, sent in the unit, received it back with a certificate of calibration yet it is showing End of Life warnings. I guess when it dies I’ll be looking for an alternative product with a company that has some sort of customer support. -

I called this number and got this message (the same one if I press the "sales" option when I call the first number): "We're sorry, your call did not go through. Please try your call later." I guess now we know what kind of customer support we will get from this company.... -

I just called that number. Selecting the customer service option goes to a voicemail. I left a message so we will see if I ever get a reply. Selecting the sales option gets a “sorry, your call did not go through. please try your call later” and then it hangs up. This does not give me much confidence. -

Does anyone have a direct contact number for Sensorcon Customer Service? I emailed their customer service address and have not gotten any replies in two days. The website doesnt seem to have a contact number for them. I have a Sensorcon unit and after about 20 months I purchased the calibration service, sent the unit in and then received it back. Now, about two months after getting it back, I am getting an End of Life warning of 75 days during startup. Tim -
Exhaust repair shops, post Hartzell?

Ah that’s too bad. I spoke to them and they seemed helpful over the phone but ended up buying a new muffler from AWI. Turns out one of the studs on my original muffler was bent resulting in a leak. This along with the flame tubes being crushed helped me justify the $1600 for the new muffler. -
I am a SavvyQA subscriber and have been for the past two years of owning my C model. I also used their PreBuy program and overall I a quite happy with the service and find it to be of good value based on the tier I have purchased. I think it comes down to expectations. Even the at the SavvyMX full tier, they do not offer actual maintenance service. So if you have some strange gremlin, they may not be able to solve your issue. However, the value in their service comes from their experience from working with various FBOs and mechanics and can usually (but not always) provide good recommendations for mechanics in your area. The features I particularly like is the analytics of my engine monitor data, and I intend on using their borescope analysis service as well since it is included. I also like being able to query them at any time for an informed opinion on whatever maintenance issue that may creep up. If you have a trusted mechanic that will take the time to educate you on maintenance, then you may not find SavvyQA or MX as valuable as you have an expert on retainer. But for those of us who don't, then Savvy is essentially that. They can offer you some advice so you can make an informed decision that may save you a ton of money from doing unnecessary work, especially if you have an overzealous mechanic. That said, they aren't miracle workers. They do not actually perform the maintenance so it isn't directly their fault if the mechanic has trouble diagnosing certain problems. What they do is either manage your maintenance, or provide advice.

I called them. They arent ready to work on these ribbed exhaust bodies until their die is made. Really nice people on the phone, though. -

I just called AWI and they want to sell me an OH muffler for $1600 and change plus tax and shipping. They said they won’t repair something if they have the PMA part in stock. PlaneExhaust.net said they are making a die to work on these mufflers but they are not ready to start working on them as of yet. Custom Aircraft Parts in El Cajon said they can repair it for about $950 or so and two week turnaround. -

These are both good advice. I’ll stick my borescope up the back end and see what’s going on. I will also call around and see exactly what cost and downtime will be as well. Tim -

I wouldnt mind if it the tubes were just eroded, but I am concerned about pieces breaking off to block the exhaust. My IA is happy to sign off as airworthy, but Savvy recommends repair or OH of the muffler. How does one tell if it will fail in such a way that it will block the exhaust vs if it will just come out in small pieces? I am all for saving cash as this has been an expensive annual. But I prefer not to wait until a big piece breaks off and blocks my exhaust while I am in the air -

There are a couple shops that work on aircraft exhausts besides AWI. I will be reaching out on Monday to see what my options are. -

My pipes and shroud look to be in good shape. The whole system is only 8 years old and made by Knisley. Just the flame tubes are AFU. Trying to find an expedient and economically sane fix. -

Was that for just the muffler or the entire system? Aviation costs are getting ridiculous…. -

Oh that isnt bad at all. Keep us posted! -
My muffler’s flame tubes are melting and collapsing and I am looking for a serviceable replacement as an alternative to buying new or waiting months for an OH. Part number 630060-501.

It looks like I may be in need of a muffler repair or OH for my 63 M20C. It’s only 8 years old but the flame tubes are already deformed. Did AWI give an ETA for the repair time? Tim -
Part numbers for prop/throttle controls (63C)
tim417 replied to phxcobraz's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
If you decide to replace the prop cable, it looks like your part number is 660226-003. -
Love this! Watching closely as my lower back will thank me later.

Part numbers for prop/throttle controls (63C)
tim417 replied to phxcobraz's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
That SB isnt the most clearly written. Yes, the COMPLIANCE NOTIFICATION section doesn’t reference the -5 suffix on the prop cable part number but the INSTRUCTION II section regarding propellor cable replacement references the entire part number with the -5 suffix. Between that and the info from LASAR, I am fairly confident that this part works in my plane. I’ll let you know how it goes when it arrives hopefully this week or early next. -

I just went through all this. The custom cable shop at McFarlane is about 8 weeks for turnaround right now after they get your measurements or cables to duplicate. As you found, McFarlane’s PMA is missing some serial numbers. I called around and found one older sounding guy at LASAR that said the part numbers changed so if you look at the IPC for the 1963 Mooney M20C (S/N range 2297-2622) the prop cable number no longer is valid and no one has any idea what it is (HE-1003-451). However he provided these part numbers for my 1963 C Model Mooney (S/N 2518): Throttle Control 660190-003 Prop Control 660189-005 LASAR does not have these in stock and neither does Mooney in Kerrville LASAR and SWTA recommended I order direct from McFarlane since they make the cables for Mooney anyway. When I pulled my throttle cable it was tagged with the above part number as provided by LASAR. I ordered both cables from McFarlane’s standard production side as it was quoted only a 2-3 week turnaround vs the 8 weeks from the custom cable side. No guarantees yours is exactly the same (or that it will actually even work in my plane) but my guess is that it should be GTG. Hope this helps. -
Lasar gearlock block and Johnson Bar nut
tim417 replied to FlyingDude's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
My 1963 C model’s down lock block was replaced with the LASAR unit back in 2005 and done at the LASAR shop. It’s almost like new 1300 hours and 19 years later. -
I was the OP of this thread, and I found a kind soul on a FB Mooney group to loan me a working KX155 while Bevan Aviation fixed my radio. This was a couple years ago. I have since sold those KX155s and upgraded to a GTN with integrated NAV/COM and an SL30 as my NAV2/COM2. The KX155s are workhorses but they are not cheap to repair, to the point where upgrading/updating isnt all that much more expensive.

Daytona Aircraft Services. Call me when you have a part number?
tim417 replied to Jrags's topic in General Mooney Talk
Sorry for reviving an old post, but has anyone run into issues like I have due to part number changes? Apparently, in the 61 years since my airplane was born, Mooney changed multiple vendors which result in part number changes. Thus when I look for, say, a throttle control cable part number in the IPC (HE102-401), that no longer exists at all. It took multiple futile calls (including McFarlane), until I found a helpful fellow at LASAR to give me the equivalent current part number.
