    You new Interior is gorgeous.

Friend of mine and hangar neighbor had his M20 J overhauled to 390 and it was used for 390  STC. for M20J's.  Gave his plane up for several months and traded for brand new engine and prop. He had no issues but better climb and speed gain. Wish I had the 390, and your interior, and that ovation or bravo your considering too.

Good Luck and appreciate the cloud you already have.

    Thank you!

  2. Bought this for a friend to install in his Cardinal.  Unfortunately he came down with some very severe medical issues, and I don’t see him flying again.  Unit was new in aug 2020.  Has ACU, both RSMs.  Very carefully uninstalled, and has everything you need to reinstall.  No wires were cut.  Units have syn vis, angle of attack, traffic unlocks etc.  posting here before I list it anywhere else.  Message me here or Bryan@avionicssource.com.
    Look and function like new.

I thought you were going to do a new glass panel on this airplane?

It's actually been ordered for quite a while.  Dang supply chain issues.   Honestly, I'll probably keep it and complete that.  I think we would rather have a 340 Or 414 with a partner and keep the J.  I had quite a bit of interest so far, but I think I'm leaning with just pulling the ad down.

  4. What I am searching for is a low time and relatively fresh overhaul ovation or bravo.  Fiki and a garmin GTN750 are preferred. If you have such a beast, PM me.  I’m going to build an add on barnstormers and trade a plane and I’ll get a link to it posted here in the classifieds.  To summarize:

1990 m20J- 2000TT- 115 hours since factory reman IO390/factory new top prop. Done this year  Engine mount overhauled, new metal baffles, new engine control cables, new exhaust.  Oil cooler overhauled.  Surefly magneto on the left side.  Maggie ignition wires. Stunning brand new aerocomfort executive interior.  Avidyne IFD550.  Lynx NGT9000 transponder, PS engineering 450B.  Century 2000 autopilot. Whelen nav/strobe combo, all synced together.  Whelen landing light. Reiff turbo preheater.  New precise flight electric speed brakes.  August annual from advanced aviation (mooney service center) Couple photos attached, more photos and better photos once I get an add up.  Still working out pricing.  Paint is a 7, maybe better, interior 10, mechanical is 10.  No fuel leaks.  Thorough and complete logs. Sad to part ways with what has taken most of my time/energy and money recently, but I think I want a FIKI bird.

  5. spent the last four years with FF.  tried GP back to back for the last 45 days.

here is what i have found:

foreflight has much better weather layers.  clouds (with altitude slider) turbulence when connected to the internet, etc.

    foreflight has a better logbook.

garmin pilots MOA notams alert is supeior

touching the screen on GP gives you an manu asking what you want to do.  i find i have a ton of accidental clicks on FF not on what i am actually trying to click.  probably one of the bigger complaints.

I really liked the cloud top imagery from FF for planning purposes.  if i switched over to GP i would still have to use 1800WXBRIEF online to get this, and turbulence data.

a big one...... FF is MUCH better to fly an approach with in my opinion.  plate displays better on the map, and selecting the mins on FF is great.

performance calc on GP i like better.

for garmin avionics, the databse concierge is cool, as is autologging your engine data.

so, mixed bag here.  GP is better in some areas, foreflight is better in others.  i would say FF is the better EFB personally.  ill probably keep GP for the database concierge and the engine data.  but ill mainly use FF

  6. mixture lean enough on the ground that and power addition will cause a stumble.  no danger of taking off lean if you do that.  give it a a turn or two for the run up.  run up at 1700-1800, look for a rise in each cylinder EGT on each mag, lightly cycle the prop a time or two depending on temp (no need to deep cycle it), and then back to 1000rpm and leaned where you cant add any throttle without a stumble.  wont foul plugs that way

I just replace both my main tires and tubes.  I have a 1984 M20J with hub caps.  Of course I have to take off the caps to service them.  My previous right tube leaked slowly and I ended up having to service it every 2-3 weeks.  Previous owner said something about it being a "cheap" tube.

Here's the ones I got and I haven't had to service them since June!

I've had good luck with Goodyear tubes also. Are the ones you ordered straight valve?

  8. Ordering tubes for the mains today.  I have a 1990 J with hub cabs.  I have heard sometimes the 90 degree stem will not work with the hubcaps.  I saw a thread about the 70 degree stems, but I couldn't tell if that will work on my J.  What tubes are you using on your mains?

    Thanks!

  9. Do you have a crosswind limit for take off?
I can not figure out what I am doing wrong on takeoffs with lots of direct crosswind.  Both times recently were on a wide runway, and ultimately nothing happened, but had I been on a narrow runway, I’d have potentially had a problem.  Both times it feels like I was heading off the centerline towards the upwind side.  I feel like this is a hole in my primary training.  I have about 750 hours, but have never really focused on the strong crosswind takeoff that I can recall. Can you share some tips and techniques? I feel like for now, I need to drop my max crosswind component down and commit to some practice.

I finally got a reasonably good shot of the new panel. It's all done except for the Smart Glide button which is back ordered. But no problem because I understand that the G3X Touch Smart Glide software has slipped from late this year to Q1 or Q2 next year.

A few comments on choices that might not be obvious. The iPad mini is powered by a USB charger mounted behind the panel. I moved the alternate static source valve/knob to the left because I find the most convenient place to stow the headset is on control shaft behind the yoke and the old knob placement was in the way. I added the AV-20-S as a tie breaker in the event of a G3X/G5 miscompare. I mounted it high in case the AoA indication proves to be useful (I don't have high hopes for it -- I never could get the Aspen AoA to be very accurate). I already had the GTX 345. I decided to replace the KX 165 (which worked fine) with a GNC 255 just for increased reliability/maintainability over the next ten years. The EDM 700 was in the center console next to the trim/flap indicators so removing it left a hole which I plugged with a Guardian CO detector. I only have a few hours on it -- mostly checking stuff out. It's all working fine and the autopilot seems rock solid. I really like the EIS and especially the position of the engine gauges next to the attitude display.

    Skip,

question for you on the smart glide.  If you have an XI, and a GFC500, the smart glide will still work, correct?
