  1. Hello Mooney People, Thinking about possibility of the upgrade? Does anyone know who or where this can be done? I understand it is not too difficult. Take off roll shorter and improved ROC a good idea! Thanks Alan
  2. thanks everyone. ...will see if I can install it! Alan
  3. Sarasota Avionics spoke about getting Synthetic Vision. I have a WAAS G1000 and understand it can be purchased from Mooney for the G1000. Does anyone have this feature? I wondered if it really works well and the cost to install it?? Thanks Alan N913ND Ovation
  4. I fly a 2008 Ovation 2 GX. Seems like the happy altitude is 8000 ft. Mine is light...no A/C, no ice protection and no oxygen. I still fly ROP.... Mooneys are meant to go fast....usually get TAS of 185 kts. I crawl underneath and keep airplane free of any soot and grease from the exhaust. That helps. 8000 ft, full throttle , 2400 RPM. 100 degrees ROP. Flaps are snug. 280 hp version. I don't know who can still do the upgrade to 310 hp? Alan
  5. Me too. Discussed it here. Usually in a crosswind. Holding right or left rudder will also turn nose wheel ...is my understanding...so necessary to neutralize rudder as nose is lowered. For crosswinds...keep aileron to hold down upwind wing. everyone please jump in and comment! Alan Ovation M20R
  6. Mooney People, Reading about Corrosion X, is it safe to spray it around all the G1000 computers that reside in the rear? Sounds like a good idea to use it! Alan
  7. Could be that the technique is to treat the rudder pedals like a taildragger and keep those feet dancing. And of course hold the upwind wing down. And yes, quite true that the IO 550 is heavy and hard to really hold off well. nevertheless, when blowing hard and gusty it's not always easy.
  8. Hello Mooney People, A technical question about the linkage between nose wheel and rudder. Using rudder to stay on the center line in a cross wind landing, does this not turn the nosegear either right or left when lowering the nose at touchdown? Sometimes, I swerve. ....not sure if it is just me or if the nose gear sets up to cause swerve on the runway?? Thanks Alan Ovation N913ND
  9. I often wonder if there is any possibility that M20 production could start again? Can't be that everyone wants a Cirrus. Does anyone have any news out of Kerrville? Alan Ovation N913ND
  10. Hi Everyone, Thanks Everyone, Annual next month. Will Boroscope cylinders and then consult Psychic Palm Reader and see what the stars say. Airplane is not jumping and screaming and I am not in any hurry to do anything to the engine. At 1000 hours , cylinders are not in the seventies but this is a Continental so no surprise. I appreciate everyone's input especially the funny ones. Thanks Alan ....Ovation N913ND
  11. Thanks Everyone, Annual in July...will pan to horoscope the cylinders and have a look...not at all anxious to do anything else now as long as the cylinders look fine.
  12. Hi GeeBee, Fly at least weekly, oil level kept at seven, fly ROP 23 inches and 2400 RPM. Annual in July. no sandstorms. Probably compression low (fifties) on at least one cylinder, Boroscope did not show any valve damage. looked ok. Not really anxious to do anything. Engine develops full power on take off and runs smoothly. Sarasota Avionics suggested a top but I am not convinced to do anything
  13. Hello Mooney People, Ovation has. about 1000 hours on IO 550 G and have thought about top overhaul. Also have read Mike Busch's essay " Cylinder work: Be Afraid. " Folks at Sarasota Avionics (KVNC) do these often but don't necessarily follow Mike's ideas...ie, preloading, torque precision etc. Using about one quart oil every 3 hours. Would like some thoughts Thanks Alan...N913ND
  14. Hi M20Doc...Thank you!
  15. Hello Mooney People, Does anyone know the part number for a small bulb at the rear or the wing tip ( part of nav lights) for a 2008 Ovation? Thanks Alan
  16. Hello Mooney People, For my 2008 Ovation.... Are there super bright landing and taxi lights that can be installed to replace the not so bright factory originals? And if so, where can I buy them and are they difficult to install? Thanks Alan N913ND
  17. Hi...Flying Mooney Ovation with G1000 avionics and AP, my electric trim has quit several times. If I fiddle with the manual control wheel between the seats I can usually get it working again. Sarasota Avionics got into the back and lubricated the gears or whatever and found nothing to repair but it still happens. So far it always starts working again! Annual soon...sure we will check all the possibilities again. Cheers Alan
  18. Well, the electric yoke switch has started working again. Problem is not solved. Annual in three months and for now will just watch it. Thanks everyone for advice, Alan N913ND
  19. Schlic In hangar yesterday , I turned power on and panel AP switch on. Then tried yoke electric trim switch with my hand resting on between seats wheel to see if it turned....at first nothing happened and it would not rotate (trim) so I then moved the wheel between the seats a few turns AND ...then repeated the whole thing and the yoke electric switch started working. To add to this saga, Sarasota Avionics looked into this after the January Lakeland Mooney course as in a dual instruction flight, everything got stuck. They looked at the servo and mechanism in the back and lubricated whatever drives that device and said all was fine. I will ask them to have another look.
  20. Skip, Moving the trim wheel between the seats seemed to loosen things up and then (on the ground) the electric trim switch on the yoke started working so it seems intermittent. I hate intermittent problems. Either way I can always trim the elevator. I will keep an eye on it. Thanks for advice! Alan
  21. So....Problem could be intermittent. in hangar, turned power on and AP rocker switch...I then pushed the electric trim button on the yoke......no trim movement....I them moved the manual trim wheel a few turns and then tried the electric trim switch again....and it worked perfectly!!! Could this be a lubrication problem?? Thanks Alan
  22. Hi Everyone, I always use the big red button on the yoke to disengage the autopilot. As observed, if AP is disengaged or turned off using the rocker switch, it also turns off the electric trim on my Ovation. I do not know of any other way to disengage the AP although it is maybe possible to press the AP button on the GFC700 and it would disengage...never tried that! But...everyone stay tuned...I am heading for the airport to fool with it
  23. Steve, The panel AP rocker switch was on. I turn the AP off with the big red button on the yoke. Electric trim on yoke would not trim airplane. I just used the manual trim wheel between the seats. I know if I turn off the rocker switch on the panel that the electric trim will not work... I am going to try it again today
  24. Hi...no popped breaker. AP was off downwind turning base....AP is Garmin GFC700. Never have autopilot turned on in immediate airport area.I could take off tomorrow and see if electric trim works with autopilot turned on but for now not sure
