  1. What Does that mean?
  2. Have had my 2008 Ovation for four years. When I first did an oil change, I had the same tiny shiny flecks of metal at oil change time. Specks were non ferrous and was told the source could be piston pin rubbing in the cylinder walls. Did scope and never did see any scoring marks and it was suggested just to watch oil changes. After two or three further 30 hour oil changes , the tiny few flakes were no longer there. Oil Analysis was not helpful so never really did figure out where the small amount of very tiny flakes started. I suspect Mike Busch might say the same thing...just watch it...but it is certainly annoying.I. am still curious!! Alan N913ND
  3. Sounds great. None of this is ever cheap. i had had my Ovation for four years and still working on flare. Nail 75 kts. hold it off stay stable, no changes and be patient. Mooneys like to float. you cannot force the landing. so much fun AlAN N913ND
  4. Sarasota Avionics completed the STC so my Ovation 2 is now an Ovation 3. I have not flown the airplane and we are going to fly tomorrow to see if the fuel flow for take off is properly set. I probably need some advice from fellow Mooniacs. And, I wonder if Mooney will sell Ovation 3. decals to switch? There must be some advice for me... Thanks Everyone Alan
  5. Hi Ryan, Thanks for the note. Most of my landings are fine but not consistently smooth. The big Continental in the front is heavy and can get a nose wheel bounce. Sometimes smooth as silk but not consistent. Phoenix is a bit of a distance from Sarasota. I take the Mooney review course every year and. they are always terrific. Sarasota to phoenix is 1802 miles not bad! Cheers Alan
  6. Hello Mooney People, I understand there is the possibility of installing an altitude callout device that can be installed. Who can tell me about this? Sounds like it can be helpful for smooth landings. Thanks Alan
  7. Mooniacs, Lots of discussion regarding the G1000/GFC700 installations. Mine is an Ovation GX2 and flying in sunny Florida, I have no use for a turbo. The G1000 is a delight to fly and with WAAS and the GFC700 autopilot , who could ask for anything more. The price to upgrade to the NXi is around 30K and is there a big advantage?? I cannot figure out why Mooney gives a hoot if anyone wants to upgrade it or what Mooney would have to do? And around here in the winter , we have sunshine and icing is never a problem! Alan
  8. Hej Partik, I have had an Ovation 2 with a G1000 and integrated Garmin 700 autopilot and WAAS for four years. It is a very capable instrument airplane if you can find one in Sweden (or the USA) For flying in Swedish winter type weather your will appreciate it. Usually at around 1000 hours of total time. on the engine, many airplanes get a top (new cylinders) . In any event any considered purchase should include a boroscope of the cylinders and a complete inspection. I would not be in favor of flying in the. USA without WAAS. It should be just as useful in Sweden. Hopefully Garmin will continue support of the G1000. There are loads of them! MVH Alan
  9. YUP, I AM SURE TAHT ISPART OF THE PROCRDURE
  10. Sounds like the answer from Lancecasper is the answer. Hopefully Sarasota Avionics has the new spring for the prop governor. Thanks everyone Alan
  11. Thanks to Frank B and Lancecasper for these answers. Sounds like the answer to crank the prop gov for 310 hp is either a screw adjustment or changing the spring inside the Governor. Whichever it is, Sarasota Avionics bought the STC from Mooney and is planning to do the work and paperwork on Monday Aug 28 . I have been curious to know exactly what work has to be done to accomplish this and if it is actually difficult. I plan to hang out there on Monday and then, of course, there is always the test flight Thanks Guys Alan N913ND
  12. Hello Mooney People, Who can tell me what actually gets done with the prop gov to switch 2500 to 2700 max RPM in the Ovation? Thanks Alan
  13. Hi, I knew that.....wondered about take off and climb performance
  14. Hello Mooney People, Taking the plunge and have STC to change Ovation 2 to Ovation 3. Expect shorter take off roll and faster rate of climb. I don't know exactly what sort of increase in performance I can expect?? Presume cruise speed remains the same. Who else has made the switch? Thanks Alan N913ND Ovation 2GX
  15. Hello Mooney People, Thinking about possibility of the upgrade? Does anyone know who or where this can be done? I understand it is not too difficult. Take off roll shorter and improved ROC a good idea! Thanks Alan
  16. thanks everyone. ...will see if I can install it! Alan
  17. Sarasota Avionics spoke about getting Synthetic Vision. I have a WAAS G1000 and understand it can be purchased from Mooney for the G1000. Does anyone have this feature? I wondered if it really works well and the cost to install it?? Thanks Alan N913ND Ovation
  18. I fly a 2008 Ovation 2 GX. Seems like the happy altitude is 8000 ft. Mine is light...no A/C, no ice protection and no oxygen. I still fly ROP.... Mooneys are meant to go fast....usually get TAS of 185 kts. I crawl underneath and keep airplane free of any soot and grease from the exhaust. That helps. 8000 ft, full throttle , 2400 RPM. 100 degrees ROP. Flaps are snug. 280 hp version. I don't know who can still do the upgrade to 310 hp? Alan
  19. Me too. Discussed it here. Usually in a crosswind. Holding right or left rudder will also turn nose wheel ...is my understanding...so necessary to neutralize rudder as nose is lowered. For crosswinds...keep aileron to hold down upwind wing. everyone please jump in and comment! Alan Ovation M20R
  20. Mooney People, Reading about Corrosion X, is it safe to spray it around all the G1000 computers that reside in the rear? Sounds like a good idea to use it! Alan
  21. Could be that the technique is to treat the rudder pedals like a taildragger and keep those feet dancing. And of course hold the upwind wing down. And yes, quite true that the IO 550 is heavy and hard to really hold off well. nevertheless, when blowing hard and gusty it's not always easy.
  22. Hello Mooney People, A technical question about the linkage between nose wheel and rudder. Using rudder to stay on the center line in a cross wind landing, does this not turn the nosegear either right or left when lowering the nose at touchdown? Sometimes, I swerve. ....not sure if it is just me or if the nose gear sets up to cause swerve on the runway?? Thanks Alan Ovation N913ND
  23. I often wonder if there is any possibility that M20 production could start again? Can't be that everyone wants a Cirrus. Does anyone have any news out of Kerrville? Alan Ovation N913ND
  24. Hi Everyone, Thanks Everyone, Annual next month. Will Boroscope cylinders and then consult Psychic Palm Reader and see what the stars say. Airplane is not jumping and screaming and I am not in any hurry to do anything to the engine. At 1000 hours , cylinders are not in the seventies but this is a Continental so no surprise. I appreciate everyone's input especially the funny ones. Thanks Alan ....Ovation N913ND
