  2. I put a Milwaukee M18 battery powered fan either on the right side floorboard or backseat and it blows a ton of air which helps, especially during taxi.
  3. It all depends on your wallet. Personally, I would not install a G5. While the G5 is nice, I would personally either just overhaul your AI or spend the extra money and get a GI275 because you get a ton of extra functionality with the 275 that you don't get with the G5.
  4. You're welcome! You could always replace the existing bulb with an LED. That's what I had my avionics shop do when I replaced my panel recently.
  5. My 69 E has a light on the bottom of the throttle quadrant that shines on the flap / trim indicator. It's connected to the dimmer knob on the panel.
  6. Bladders would add some value in my opinion. In fact, a friend of mine and I both just had bladders installed and in his case it added fuel capacity. At some point, most Mooneys are going to need either a tank reseal or bladders. There are plenty of debates on both sides as to which is better, but a recent one of either means that a new owner isn’t going to need to spend that time and money on doing it. Therefore, it adds value just as a more recently overhauled engine would add more value than an older one.
  7. I removed the clock and replaced it with a metal plate that has a Ram ball mounted to it. iPad mounts to that.
  8. If you’re replacing them anyway, put in camlocs.
  9. “Light IFR” without an AP is fine in my opinion and I did quite a bit of that in my E before I got a new panel. I don’t think you’d want to do hours and hours of IMC without one though. Trying to get the old Britain system working is probably going to be next to impossible based on my attempts. Only real option right now is Garmin because Dynon and others just aren’t interested in certifying for the older models. The Garmin is incredible but very, very expensive.
  10. Poplar Grove Airmotive in Poplar Grove, IL is a very good engine shop and stand behind their work. I had my IO360 overhauled there. https://www.poplargroveairmotive.com/
  11. I have an E model. No YD. My shop said it was unnecessary and having flown with the GFC500 quite a bit now, I really don’t think it would add much.
  12. What you’re describing is almost identical to my process with the exception that rather than target 1800 RPM, I’m usually prop full forward (high RPM) and about 17” MP. Otherwise, the speeds, etc are exactly what I do.
  13. I think it looks much better! Just my opinion FWIW.
  14. I'm 6'1" and find my E model very comfortable in the front. Remember that Mooney's sit like sports cars with your legs almost straight out in front of you. And don't let anyone tell you that Mooney's are smaller side to side than any Piper, etc. because they're all almost identical. As for the backseat, I can haul one regular size adult or two kids comfortably, or it can seat two -small to regular size- adults somewhat uncomfortably unless it's a short flight. You can get a very nice C or E for under $100k.
  15. I don’t see anything in there that’s relevant, but AC20-62E seems somewhat applicable. I think the bottom line (at least for me) is 1) could I make a case in court for my actions by proving that what I did was in the best interest of safety, didn’t affect flight characteristics, I didn’t have any other certified options, etc. and 2) do I have an A&P willing to sign it off in the logbook. In this case, I think I’m covered, so will likely use the new LEDs.
