  1. Thanks uh…..for the help.
  2. How about swapping antennas? There is usually enough slack to swap the antenna leads.
  3. When I was having my interior redone, I thought about re-doing the sound insulation then I thought, "No matter how much and how good you use, you're still going to wear an ANR headset anyway". So I kept the stock insulation because it is a losing battle in a recap. There is only one airplane I ever flew that I could fly without a headset and that was the Airbus. Even Boeings are too noisy.
  4. I will second what mike_elliot said. You should not fly the airplane with a low voltage light warning, even if it goes out with the standby alternator. The standby is a "get you to a suitable and safe landing place", not an optional alternator to go flying. The reason is the main alternator coupling could be going bad, possibly shredding rubber into your oil or even worse, mechanical damage occurring to the gear set which could set you up for engine failure. More than likely your problem is either an intermittent field wire, or an internal problem in your main alternator like bad diode, worn brushes etc. None the less, until you verify the coupling is sound, do not fly. Here is what can happen
  5. Thank you all for your wonderful and helpful responses and experiences. You have helped me greatly. Of note, I found out now that if you use the laser scalpel, there is no eye drops as they place the medicine in you eye during the surgery. That is nice! Plaining for a late January procedure date. I will update you on the outcome!
  6. After my last eye exam, the time has come for cataract surgery. I am considering advanced lenses such a "ProOptix" or "Vivity" which will eliminate my need for glasses. The ProOptix will eliminate glasses entirely, but there is a 20% rate of "halo" around lighting at night. Vivity has less chance of "halo" but near vision will be functional but not perfect. My concern about "halo" is night flying. I don't want to be restricted to daytime operations if I turn out to the the "20%". So if you have any experience with these products or others, tell me your experience. We are talking Basic Med requirements here by the way.
  7. One of the many reasons I left in 1990 after 40 years.
  8. End the Eagle program. Give half the money it would have consumed to GAMI for universal public access to the G100UL STC. End of problem, less money, less meetings, less problems.
  9. Yeah, what they want is for First Class to be forward of door L2. That way they can board through door L2 and you don’t have the “lessers” tromping through the FC cabin.
  10. What is amazing is typically the A330 and A350 fly with about the farthest aft CG of any jet flying. This will not help Swissair's operating economics.

  12. Sometimes you got to “rub your neck and write a check”
  13. Generally money fixes most these "tribal lands" transgressions. We were pheasant hunting a fence line in SD once when 3 of a party of 6 found themselves on the wrong side of the fence, tribal land. You could hunt there but needed a tribal hunting license, 100 dollars. So what was the fine for hunting on tribal lands without a license? 100 dollars. The ranger was essentially a collection service.
  14. Delta tire shop had an accident that killed two, maimed another. The scene had to be horrific. I am told one mechanic had his head blown off and had to be identified by his tattoos. The other was sliced clean in half at the torso. A third lost both his legs is expected to survive. My sources said, typically tires are deflated before removal by cutting the valve stems off, since they are replaced anyway. They then let them sit 24 hours before work to insure full and complete deflation. In this case, for reasons not yet determined, the tire was fully inflated as they started to separate the wheel halves. After removing a few thru bolts, the rest of the bolts "ribboned" off in consecutive order like a machine gun, like a 30mm gun because those bolts are big, then the wheel halves blew apart. Reminder that seemly routine maintenance can go terribly wrong. https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/tire-explodes-in-delta-air-lines-atlanta-maintenance-shop-two-dead/?MailingID=FLY240828016&utm_campaign=avwebflash&utm_medium=newsletter&oly_enc_id=5912C9519189D2Y
  15. One time, I was going into Starkville, MS in a 757. The F/O asked if I wanted to do straight in. I said, "Let's do this right and by the book" and I entered a 45 and flew a full pattern. I ended up clearing every airplane out of the pattern due to wake turbulence fears. It would have been better to do a straight in for all the airplanes in the pattern, less change of a wake encounter for them and quicker for me.
  16. Tell the county of Santa Clara. They seem to be ignoring that and the litigation is moving at snails pace.
  17. Dying by any means is highly overrated. Nobody in their right mind goes, “on their own terms” but rather the terms dictated by their circumstances.
  18. In the overhead by the speaker grill.
  19. I have a friend that runs a well known aviation electrical and avionics shop. He tells me he gets rebuilt couplers that fail the torque test, right out of the box.
  20. Yes to the extent I could.
  21. I copied and formatted the checklist from the POH. In part of my formatting, I colored the type on the CB action that the checklists require to be pulled to match the color of the collar. For instance, pulling the Battery CB during alternator failure and activating the backup alternator is colored red. The C/B collar is red. Speed brake failure checklist requires the speed brake CB to be pulled. I colored the type yellow and made the collar yellow. That way, you can index and find the correct CB quickly while running the checklist.

  23. Servicing means filling the tank.
  24. I've solved a lot of comm issues by cleaning the ground wire off the battery. Both ends.
  25. I recently read a analysis from a RGA (a re-insurance that said in GA, gliders have the highest claim rate for hull loss, but that the amounts are low, because gliders don't cost much and because of low speeds, rarely bodily injury https://www.rgare.com/knowledge-center/article/general-aviation-experience-in-the-united-states
