  1. turbo overhaul: $2500, Main Turbo visalia, CA. quick turn around time. starter adapter/ scavenge pump overhaul: $3000, aero accessories of Oklahoma. If you bring the plane to Rio Vista, I'm willing to help look it over.
  2. yes, Lee Apaka out of Rio Vista O88. teamlightaviation@gmail.com 707-863-1121. quick flight from san jose for you.
  3. Initially I reach out to consolac.com as I did recall kortopates mention this company in other threads. They do not have the drawings for the voltage regulator. Eventually, I got an answer for International Avionics and shipped the part in this case both voltage regulators which are separate units but one assembly. Today I did reach out again to consolac and spoke with the repair representative, he suggested that I request the schematic, exploded drawing, parts list, and testing procedure from International Avionics as they are required by the FAA to provide them as the owner of the plane. I am not aware of this regulations but plan to call back tomorrow to see if he could provide it and if they would be willing to repair it without the documents. I did send an email to International Avionics requesting the documents. The representative from consolac suggested if a DER was needed it would be about$1000. Here is a picture of the regulator assembly
  4. update: After numerous phone calls with voicemails once a week; in fairness the owner does leave a voicemail later in the day, today called 5x, text and email. The owner did reach out via text and state his tech is still on medical leave and is struggling to hire, and struggling to keep the company open. I did ask him to not to repair my voltage regulator and send it back to me and he did as requested, should arrive thursday. International avionics did have my voltage regulator for 2 months. In fairness my plane was down for other problems, propeller overhaul, cowl flap motor overhaul, carpet install, pilot seat articulating seat support bar was crack and need to be welded.. As of today the plane is back together, seat will be ready on thursday and just need the voltage regulator. My plan: Discussed with IA, he's in the camp I need a 337. I do see both sides of the argument. I ordered 2 voltage regulators today from aircraft spruce and should arrive on Thursday. My old voltage regulator will arrive on Thursday also. I will reinstall old voltage regulator for now and fly with 1 inop regulator. For those who asked the voltage regulator PN 9500581001. The retrofit kit is 940170-503. I looked through my logs and there is no entry for this voltage regulator with a build date 0507. I reached out to laser today but they don't have the installations drawings. I will reach may reach out Maxwell also. I had to send email to mooney tech support but they are out of office until September 5. Plan for 337 is to submit retrofit drawing and plane power installation drawing and installation manual as part of paper package for field approval. I did reach out to the Sacramento FSDO today and left a voicemail as instructed. I will try and find and email of an inspector to inquire they would like to see as part of the paper package. I may also try the Oakland FSDO. I will update as things progress further and thank you for the discussion.
  5. EricJ, I am comfortable with doing the installation. Yes, the IA is the one who signs off my annuals for the plane. He is not strict in his interpretation of the regulations and has been around a long time. I think I may have to sit down with him again and discuss the FAA flow chart.
  6. The IA felt, because it was a mooney specific part number. I would need a field approval, I would need the specs for the old component and new component to be submitted for field approval. I take the view this is an industry standard component with that is a modern solid state device that will provide cleaner power to the modern avionics installed. The R1224 is is approved for mooney's A-G models. Plane Power was no help when calling.
  7. Mooney M20k-252 with duel 28v voltage regulator, part number specific to m20k. Voltage regulator was sent to international avionics in texas for repair 2 months ago. Service tech is on extended medical leave with no time frame for returning. I would like to install the plane power 28v voltage regulator R1244, this part is approved for other mooney models. I am a licensed a&p and when going through the FAA decision tree and reading 14 cfr 21.93; I arrive at installing the plane power voltage regulator to be a minor repair. I have spoke with an IA and he feels that it needs a field approval. but According to 14 CFR 21.93, “A ‘minor change’ is one that has no appreciable effect on the weight, balance, structural strength, reliability, operational characteristics, or other characteristics affecting the airworthiness of the product. All other changes are ‘major changes’ (except as provided in paragraph (b) of this section).” Definitions provided in 14 CFR Part 1.1 state, “Major alteration means an alteration not listed in the aircraft, aircraft engine, or propeller specifications— (1) That might appreciably affect weight, balance, structural strength, performance, powerplant operation, flight characteristics, or other qualities affecting airworthiness; or (2) That is not done according to accepted practices or cannot be done by elementary operations.” And “minor alteration means an alteration other than a major alteration.” For me the key words are reliability and operational characteristics. I would be installing 2 modern solid state voltage regulators. Thanks in advance for the input.
  8. @pwnel congratulations on your first daunting leg Alaska to Japan. Could you report out your planned hourly fuel flow, man/ rpm, and planned true airspeed. Did you calculate your performance based on the l/d graph? Best wishes on your upcoming legs. I will be following along here and on your blog.
  9. Team light aviation in Rio vista 707-683-1121. Bill the IA had a vintage mooney for many years. Bill and Lee are very knowledgeable mechanics. Tell them Chris referred you. I have a plane based there.
  10. Could someone show a picture where your fire extinguisher is mounted? I particularly don’t like it mounted behind my emergency extension as can see in my previous post it’s in the way for the rear passenger seats.
  11. It is a brushed motor. I dissembled it, cleaned with contact cleaner. The brass bushings are good. Assembled it and applied a dab of Dow silicon grease to shaft end opposite of the fan. I also removed the old rigid rubber from the mounting plate on the fan and installed the fan to the airframe with a piece of sound deadening material. Fan assembly runs significantly quieter now.
  12. I recently ordered a m20k-252 kit from scs, and found that the 252 kit does not fit my 252. They have been great to work with. They sent me the drawings for the j, 231, k and a drawing from a customer using a combination of j and K models. After reviewing the drawings and measuring panels in the plane Then submit your your order. For me I will need the spar carpet from the 231, the front floor, aft bulk head and front kick panels from the j and k drawings. The j drawing is the only drawing that has the surge finish around the rudder pedals. But I do need them to modify the floor carpet to jog outboard at 31.5 inches. The drawings show 30.5 inches which causes the seat track to be covered at the forward edge. I will be emailing them today for the update on needed carpets. when contacting them I would ask them to surge the lower edge of the cargo door cut out, none of the drawings have this piece surged finished. Here are some pictures for reference.
  13. Thank you for the responses, called allied under FAA phone number and was quoted $600 to repair. Also, spoke with another department part can be made with a 52 week lead time and requires a request for quote. I think I will clean it and return it to service for now. I’ll update if I find a suitable alternative motor
  14. Need help in finding a brushed motor for the avionics fan. Original motor manufactured by TRW electronics which cross references to allied motion and or globe motors but unable to find an equivalent part number. Original part number 19a2790 and c414007-010. Has anyone sourced a motor off of digikey, mouser, or rs-online? I have dis-assembled the motor, internals look good hope it just needs a cleaning to solve the mechanical noise problem. any help would be greatly appreciated.
  15. For those who are looking for the v-band clamp for the tsio-360 or tsio-520 part number 653337. Ram has a few in stock now. Ordered 1 today, catalog shows $330, new price $475.
