I did try to call Jake. Unfortunately he’s on holiday this week. I sent him an email and hopefully I’ll hear from him when he returns. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

While the visual indication on the KI- 256 is not very much, the rocking back-and-forth of the wings during the first five minutes of engagement is at least 20° left and right. Certainly enough to get the passengers attention! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
OK guys, I few weeks back I post that my KFC-150 would rock left and right when I engaged the autopilot in the heading mode for the first few minutes of engagement, then it would be rock steady. I got lots of good advice but have not acted on it yet. Now I have another factor to throw in that might be related. All advice would be appreciated. In addition to the lateral rocking for the first few minutes of engagement in the heading mode, now the K I-256 Flight Command Indicator is constantly showing a left-hand turn. And sometimes, it shows a descent. I have included a few photographs (I know everybody loves photographs) showing this situation. In the photographs you will see that the KI 256 is showing a left hand turn while the backup attitude indicator is showing straight and level, the turn and bank indicator is showing straight and level and the six pack on Foreflght display is showing straight level. In previous post, the blame went to either the gyros in the KI-256 or the brushes in the servo motor. With this new information about the K I-256 constantly showing a left hand turn, would you now throw all of the blame on the K I-256? Thank you, Glen

What do you mean, Dan, not a perfect match? I owned a Grumman tiger and now I own an M20J. I’m at Sun and fun but will reach out to this individual as soon as I can. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a KfC150 in my J. Recently, in heading mode, immediately after engaging it wanders left and right, maybe 20 degrees for about 3 minutes then locks in perfectly. Stays good the rest of the flight. Any thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

on my iphone. I can use it on my computer and my ipad but my iphone gets inundated with pop-up ads to the point I can not read the content of the forum. Why is this happening and how can I fix it? Thanks. Glen N57540 M20J

I'm located in Maine. I own a 45x60 metal metal hangar with a 60 foot wide electric door. The hangar is insulated and heated, has an office, a bathroom and a storage room. I do not use it for business, just housing my Mooney and my Taylorcraft. My local insurance agent is having difficulty finding an underwriter. Anyone have personal experience with insurance companies that specialize or at least have experience with personal hangars? The replacement value is $185,000. Thank you.

By best buddy, Jose Gibert, took his grand daughter, Lilah, flying in his new K model. He and I both drank the Kool-aid last year. He bought a K model and I bought a J. This video makes my heart glow! https://youtu.be/HPqDETzDRgQ

I need a steering horn for a 1980 M20K. Laser does not have them in stock. Can they be rebuilt? Anyone have a good one willing to sell or know where I can get one in good condition?

This just started today. Nothing changed in the last two months maintenance wise. Any ideas? IMG_1029.MOV

Not many good days for flying here in central Maine lately. Today turned VFR in the afternoon so I fired up my J (pushed the Taylorcraft to the back of the hangar) and blasted off. Set the power low, 22 MP and 2200 Rpm. Leaned to 6.7 GPH and engaged the AP (KFC 150). Indicated 128 knots. Flew to Waterville, Augusta, Bangor then back to Central Maine Airport. All in 1 hour 18 minutes. Good stuff. Happy New Year everyone. IMG_1031.MOV

The avionics Shop wants $235 to replace the battery in a G5. Is there something special about it and/or is it very difficult to replace.

How do I change the bulb in my barber pole gear indicator on the floor on my J? I Purchased a 12 V bulb to replace the existing 24 V bulb so it would be brighter. I hope changing the bulb does not involve removing the belly pan. That would be quite a chore just to replace a tiny little lightbulb.

So, I have a 1984 J. It’s relatively new to me. I have about 40 hours on it. Yesterday, I climbed to 12,000 feet. This was the first time I’ve had it above 8000 feet. While in the climb and climbing through about 10,000 both my wife and I smelled gas. The plane was at gross and the tanks were full when we departed, 64 gallons. The smell went away after about 10 minutes. I did not see any fuel leaking when I looked at the filler caps on the wings. Might this have something to do with the altitude? Any idea where to start investigating it so I don’t have a fuel smell/leak again? Thanks

I am referring to the gear down indicator on the floor between the seats in my J. It is also referred to by some has a barber shop pole as it is stripped green or stripped red, depending of gear position up or down. Well, mine is lighted but the light is so dim it is worthless. I was told Mooney may have installed 28 volt bulbs into this 14 volt system just so it's not too bright. Anyone know if that is true but more important, has anyone found a way to make it brighter? My buddy is looking at a 1980 M20K. I have a 1984 J. On the K he is looking at, there is a device that looks like a lollipop under the wing. The seller says it is a "squat switch". My J doesn't have it. What is it and what is it for? Also, his electric trim works at cruise but seems to show down during the final approach phase. Mine works the same at all times. Next, when you push the electric trim switch forward (toward the engine) should that make the nose go up or down? Finally, my stock instrument cluster (above the six pack) has fuel pressure but the K he is looking at does not. Should the fuel pressure be in that cluster on all J's and K's? Thanks. Glen

Single 10” G3X with Garmin EIS in a turbo
Glen Davis replied to 81X's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I envy the panel and got a kick out of the paper clip holder mounted on the yoke, circa 1970. -
I have a placard to avoid continuous operation between 1500 and 1950 rpm w mp below 15”. I know this is due to harmonic vibrations that can cause damage, however book says with McCauley prop only. I have a Hartzel. Is there any restriction with the Hartzel? Thanks.

Derek, I’m in NJ and looking for the same panel in my J. Would you share your quote with me? I’m going to get a quote from a MSC in Maine and will share that with you. Glen.

Curt, Thank you. What a fantastic panel. I did see it once before via our mutual buddy. Why did you go with the JPI over the Garmin Engine Monitor? My guess is having the engine monitor separate, just in case your G3X failed. If I went for whole shooting match, what should I expect to spend. After seeing yours....... Glen
