I had the prebuy done at a VERY reputable Mooney specific shop in Texas. They did a thorough prebuy and annual, with specific attention to the mice issue. They removed a large nest and debris. They found no corrosion, fortunately. I would not have completed the sale if any was found. The little guy in the eyeball vent must have been in the fresh air duct inside the headliner. The last man standing! Their shop is SWTA. I’ve flown and brokered aircraft for almost 50 years. I’ve met hundreds of mechanics. Owners JD and his wife Laura (also an A+P) are second to none. They are Mooney experts and honest as the day is long.

But the hijacker died. I bought this plane three weeks ago in Texas and flew it back to Maine. I knew it had mice in it because they became evident during the pre-by and annual done in Texas. The shop did their best to remove the mouse nest and any associated debris. Apparently, they missed one. I’m glad he didn’t fall out of the overhead eyeball vent while my wife was sitting in the right seat!

I recently bought a Mooney with a full Garmin panel. According to the previous owner, there is a FS 210 as well as a WX 500 storm scope mounted somewhere behind the panel and connected to my G3X. The log book entry is not legible due to water damage. How can I determine if there is an FS 210 and a storm scope installed?

I have a new to me 1989 J model. I acquired it about a month ago. I live in Maine and it’s already getting close to freezing in the morning. Yesterday I went flying and turned on the defroster just to check that it was working correctly. I put my hand up by the output on the glare shield where the hot air should’ve been coming out, but nothing was coming out. I then took a flashlight and looked into that opening and discovered there were no ducts connected there. I could see behind the panel when I looked down into the defrost vents. I assume there should be some kind of a ducting system to move the warm air to the defrost vents on top of the panel to defrost the windshield. Could someone give me some further advice and guidance on what is supposed to be there and if you had any pictures, that would be marvelous! TTIA.

I’m going to be flying into Nashville, Tennessee on December 27 and departing on January 2. I’d like to, if possible, keep my airplane in a hanger. Any suggestions on which airport would be preferred? Also need to rent a car. Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions.

In the J I’m taking delivery of next week, there are no AMFS’s for anything that was recently installed in the panel including: -Garmin GTN-750 Touchscreen WAAS GPS / Nav / Com. -Garmin GTX-345R Remote ADS-B Transponder (In and Out). -Garmin GMA-35C Remote Audio Panel / Intercom. -Garmin GTR20 Second Comm -Garmin FlightStream 210 Bluetooth Interface. -Garmin G3X Touch with EIS -Garmin G5 -Garmin GFC500 4 I know the GFC500 requires one. Do any of the other components also require one? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My new J is getting a thorough annual at SWTA in Texas. I need this kit to comply with the “no-back clutch spring” SB. Supplier says several month backlog. Anyone have one they would be willing to sell to me?

My J has flat spots on both mains. AP says they are airworthy. Will the flat spot go away? Will it thump while taxing?

See 70 photos at: https://glendavis.smugmug.com/N57540/ $160,000 N57540 is a 1984 Mooney M20J, serial number 24-1459 which I have owned for three years. The only reason I’m selling is I want a glass panel and the shops are all telling me there is a 6 month delay on parts and then my plane will be in the shop for three months. Too long! I found another J, as nice as mine, with a glass panel so I bought it. Time for someone else to enjoy a really nice M20J that's in great condition, ready to fly anywhere. Total Airframe time is 4685. TSMO by Penn Yan is 1185. Overhaul was to factory new specifications. Last annual was July 2023 with compressions 72,74,76,74. Engine is IO-360-A3B6D. New alternator belt installed last annual just as preventive maintenance and a new battery was installed 2021. Propeller is a Hartzell Scimitar HC-C2YR-1BF with 367 hours. I burn 7 GPH at economy power cruising flying 135 knots or 159 knots burning 11.5 GPH at high cruise. New brake pads 2022, inflatable door seal 2021 (no cold air on passengers leg and very quiet), Flightstream 210 installed 2020 for bluetooth to a tablet, new rear headphone jacks installed 2020, new comm antenna installed 2021, new landing gear shock discs 2017. Avionics include Garmin 530 WAAS factory overhauled 2019, Garmin GTX-330 transponder overhaul 2019 (ADSB out), standby vacuum system, JPI 450 Fuel Totalizer (accurate to ½ gallon), JPI EDM Engine Monitor, King KX 155 Navcom with KI-209 Converter with Glideslope, KMA 24 Audio Panel, KFC 150 Autopilot with Flight Director which will fly heading, track the GPS, track both the localizer and glideslope for a fully coupled approach. There is a backup Artificial Horizon and Directional Gyro. PAI Vertical Card Compass, Digital Clock with flight time and timer, Handheld radio antenna connection, Electric Trim (auto), Leather covered yokes, glairshield and center post by AeroComfort, sun visors, 4 place intercom with music input, panel mounted ELT switch, Hobbs Meter, Wingtip and Tail strobes, LED landing light, Ram Air, leather camel color interior (7), rear fold down seats, articulation front seats, 4 place shoulder harness, paint shines (7). I don’t cut corners and have preventive maintenance done regularly. No Damage History. All logs. Plane is hangared at KOWK in Maine. Ferry anywhere can be arranged for a fee and airline ticket home. Glass is new to me. I’m an old steam gauge guy (47 years). On the G3X in my 1989 J, volts show correctly at 28 but amps show minus 7 with a full electrical load. Is that normal?

My friend has a 1985 M20K. The analog fuel gauges read correctly when the airplane is on the ground. Once the airplane departs the ground and is either in climb, cruise or descent the left gauge reads zero while the right gauge reads correctly. This happens no matter which position the fuel selector switch is in. Once the airplane is back on the ground both gauges read correctly once again. Any idea what might be causing this anomaly?

Vacuum Pump annunciator, light problem

I can’t thank you all enough. This is a very fine detail as part of a complex system that most owners (and some mechanics) would not have detailed knowledge of. Now I do. THANK YOU! -
Vacuum Pump annunciator, light problem
Glen Davis replied to Glen Davis's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Thank you. Do you know where that switch is located? -
Last week, a friend of mine was using my M 20 J and the vacuum pump annunciator light started flashing. He was 600 miles away from home. He stopped at an airport and a mechanic visually looked at the vacuum pump and said it was defective based on some Residue visible around it. He replaced it with a new vacuum pump. My friend flew back home with no issue. Today, I took the plane for a 300 mile trip and about 10 minutes into the trip the vacuum pump annunciator light again started to blink. In both cases the vacuum gauge showed good vacuum pressure. It was right in the center of the green, which I believe is 5 inches. The vacuum pump annunciator light continue to blink for today’s flight but the vacuum pressure gauge continuously showed good pressure, in the green. I’m beginning to think I had the vacuum pump replaced last week unnecessarily. One other point I’ll make is during today’s flight when the annunciator light was blinking I turned on the standby vacuum switch, and the vacuum gauge went full scale beyond the green area. I am mediately shut it off. While the auxiliary vacuum pump was on for a few seconds the annunciator light stop blinking but when I shut the auxiliary vacuum pump off the annunciator light started blinking again. Has anyone any experience with this and an idea of what might be the problem?

My friend has a 231. It has an analog tachometer, as well as a JPI 830. When he brings the power all the way back to idle, the JPI shows an “X” , meaning no reading yet the mechanical tach reads 800 RPM. Why would the JPI do this?
