Yeah, sorry. I disagree. He is actively working and supporting the move to ban 100LL in California to force his product (the only currently available) as the single source for avfuel. If he wasn’t actively pushing for that, I’d feel differently.

Not yet. At the moment he’s just asking me to risk my life and the life of others on “because I said so” and I kinda think that’s worse

G100UL paint testing by YouTuber mluvara
ragedracer1977 replied to Shiroyuki's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Posted in a thread here days ago. There’s really only a few scenarios here. 1 - the testing was not as thorough as they thought. 2 - testing was thorough and they knew it might happen, but figured it wouldn’t be a big deal. 3 - there’s something different about the formulation and/or environment in CA that hasn’t been discovered. In my opinion, a combination of the 3 is most likely. Maybe higher or lower humidity? Salt in the air or already on panels? Maybe CA has a slightly different formulation for one of the additives? We know that other entities have stated that G100UL can strip paint. But it’s been dismissed as “big oil or big money bulls$^t”. in a very short time, we have empirical evidence that not everything in the below quote is accurate. We’re seeing multiple examples of paint stripping. One of our members (who I know is a very conscientious owner) has seen permanent staining in very little time. Seeing the swelling of the orings concerns me. There are a lot of ‘rubber’ products in the fuel system. I have concerns. And the answers thus far have not been convincing. Actually, the non-answers that have been more akin to an attack on the owners of the airplanes. “George Braly Posted December 14 G100UL Avgas is NOT a threat to normal aircraft paint. We have even soaked a couple of those side panels in G100UL for a week or more. The paint was fine at the end of that. What does and will happen - - is if you do not properly clean up the spilled fuel, and allow it to dry, it can and will leave a light tan stain on the paint. If you do properly clean it up, it will not stain the paint - - even after repeated spills in the same location. But, to date, we have never seen any evidence of any type of "paint striping" activity to any of the dozen or more aircraft parts that were removed from our customers Bonanzas and used as "test articles."” -
I don’t think they’d disagree. In fact, their own announcements on this state they approved an STC, not a fuel. This is 100% black and white. Either the FAA approved G100UL as drop in fuel available to use in all aircraft immediately or they approved a modification which allows aircraft to use a fuel that otherwise would not be legally allowed. We know it’s the second. I hope the opposition has knowledgeable attorneys. I’m never a fan of the government, or companies using the government, forcing the market into a certain product. See sawstop for example. Very reminiscent of the current situation. A company with a wallet to fill trying to use the government to fill it faster.

You can say it, but it’s not true. I know you want it to be, because it benefits you. Zero percent of anything is approved to use G100UL by the FAA. You’ve repeatedly reminded us that the FAA IS NOT CAPABLE of issuing such an approval. What is approved is an STC that allows most piston engine aircraft to be modified to use G100UL. Those are not the same thing.

Except helicopters. They’re all grounded. why couldn’t I run mogas in an IO-520? Oh.. wait. You can. With an STC. Why can’t they use the inpulse as an example to ban 100LL? The “with an STC” is the sticky wicket, IMO. To be truly commercially available it needs to be drop in. If I flew into CA - after they ban 100LL - without the STC, my plane is grounded until I buy the STC, wait for the placards to be delivered, and find an IA to sign a 337. That could be weeks. Thats not commercially available.

After reading the consent decree, I don’t believe G100UL is ‘commercially available’ per the wording the CEH themselves crafted. See this snippet about mogas and explain how G100UL is different. “The Parties acknowledge that certain aircraft that have obtained Supplemental Type Certificates from the FAA are permitted by law to use high octane automotive gasoline that does not contain lead ("Mogas"). Although some aircraft are capable of using Mogas, some are not. As a result, FBOs cannot offer Mogas in lieu of Avgas but only in addition to Avgas.” Since 90+% of the fleet is not currently capable of using G100UL, and 100% of piston helicopters would be grounded - how is different from mogas or UL94 in terms of the decree? i tried to have this question answered on BT, but it was deflected and or I was just being a troll.

Re-fueling - What do you use for ground?

Don’t the little static discharge bracelets have something like a 10k ohm resistor to block current? It’s bonding not grounding -
Re-fueling - What do you use for ground?
ragedracer1977 replied to Paul Thomas's topic in General Mooney Talk
I’m trying to comprehend how this is possible (no continuity). The exhaust is bolted to the engine. I’m gonna have to test mine and random ramp derelicts i really feel like this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about (it’s not grounding he wants, it’s bonding. And the exhaust should absolutely be bonded to the airframe, if the engine is. wheres @EricJ? -
I believe that’s normal behavior on a no start and a bendix. The faster speed of the ring gear when the engine starts kicks the gear off. I’m not 100% on that, but I’d look into it before you spend money. The no start is almost assuredly a p lead issue. I’d triple check your key wiring. First thing I would do… key off - stay away from the prop! If you wired it backwards, the mags might be hot! Check if your p leads have continuity to ground. If they don’t, they’re hot. If they do, go turn the key to “on” or “run” and check continuity again. If they’re still grounded, it’s a wiring issue. I’ve seen 3 guys at the field with ignition switches wired incorrectly.

G100UL is available at Reid Hillview (RHV)
ragedracer1977 replied to UteM20F's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
This is my sole complaint with the STC situation. The more money you are going to sending GAMIs way in the future, via increased fuel burn, the more you pay up front. The STC for my aircraft is $1200. So, I'll pay 4 times the return to GAMI over my lifetime than a guy flying a C model mooney the same number of hours, and I get to pay 4 times as much upfront. Nonsense. -
Why would the moss letter change an owner assist? An annual inspection is not maintenance. Go read part 43 appendix D and see if you can find any where maintenance occurs in an annual inspection. If you want to get pedantic, appendix D already prohibits owner assistance. The INSPECTOR has to wash the plane And remove all panels, etc. If you want to get REALLY pedantic, it’s not legal for a woman to be an IA. Each person performing an annual or 100-hour inspection shall, before that inspection, remove or open all necessary inspection plates, access doors, fairing, and cowling. He shall thoroughly clean the aircraft and aircraft engine

I think you’d have to move it around. The constellation seems to be mostly north north east. At least that’s where it always wants me to point it. So I think you’d want to put in the window that gives the clearest NNE view depending which way you’re flying
-
I’m sure it would work. I know that face time works perfectly
-
This one actually seems stronger. It applies the force to mounting points in a different way and being tucked up into the “pocket” where the window is. It’s less attractive as a grab point for passengers
-
My passengers think the Starlink is the bees knees. My first hasty mount is pictured in the plane below. I made a second one that tucks it up better, but I haven’t taken it to the plane yet. I used thumb screws into floating clip nuts so nothing is permanent and it goes in and out without tools. I have been using a battery (usb-c pd pack) that delivers 100w at 20 volts. But then I discovered that you can run the dish off anything from 12-48 volts. There’s a cigarette lighter jack in the back so I think I’m just going to make an adapter cable to plug into that. 150mbps is pretty standard. A few weekends ago I flew with 5 people to San Diego (about 2 hrs in the air). All 6 of us were logged on. My kids were streaming YouTube, my wife was working, my sister in law even did a Facebook live video from the air. I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between it and my home internet.

P2 Audio Advisory System per STC SA01114CH

I might have it somewhere. I’ll have to dig around the hangar. What issue are you having? It’s a pretty basic system -

I used this guy 6 years ago, don’t know if he’s still around. I felt like he did a very good job, there were no surprises. His communication was good, I got lots of pictures. Macy Maintenance Kevin Macy owner P.O. Box 250 Brownsville, CA 95919 530-774-5363 -

New Panel for my Bravo--now a 21st century airplane
ragedracer1977 replied to ZamF16's topic in Mooney Bravo Owners
Good to know. You might know this, but I’m not sure so just want to run it by. The 430 feeds GPS and nav data to the G500 over arinc but it also has a gi106 indicator that is fed via a separate analog harness from the 430. The STC requires it be done this way. The 440 would still run that properly?
