Are you running mineral oil? You gotta check the engine manufacturer's service instructions about what oils are allowed. Mineral oil cokes up quick at the temps in the turbocharger. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

He had some retired Navy guy there helping him. I forget the Jackasses name. When Bob passed he said Bob said he could have everything and he kept it all. I tried to buy some stuff from him but he wouldn't still anything. I understand Bob had a son but evidently the son didn't want to try to get the tools. There's something in the maintenance manual about the allowable limits. It seems like it's close to 1/8". I just replaced one. I can't remember what the replacement cost was but we got it from LASAR. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

New/overhauled mags have been known to fail out of the box. We've all seen that more times than we'd like. CHECK YOUR ENGINE DATA PLATE for the correct timing. Make sure you're timing the engine to the correct cylinder. I have had FNG's that work on Lycomings one day and Continentals the next try to time an engine to the wrong cylinder. (In their defense, they were on the correct side of the engine. I've even seen a mechanic time one on the exhaust stroke! You mentioned a 300 mag drop but didn't say what side. Pay double attention to the things that affect BOTH mags. Induction pipes. Fuel delivery. Fuel primer and it's lines. Mag switch. Double check any maintenance done during the annual on these items. Make sure fuel is making it past the gascolator!!! The gas selector has to be on a tank with fuel in it! I seriously doubt you have two bad mags. But I wouldn't bet $20 on it. Walk away. Get lunch. An unfortunate situation, I think, but I agree. I've talked to a few shops (Aviation and Automotive), that the parts markup is their bread and butter. I know it takes man-hours and physical space (which is at a premium these days!), to procure parts and maintain a reasonable stock so that every airplane isn't waiting on parts. The shops that have the expertise and experience do need the support. They are the ones with the "corporate knowledge" that many independent shops and mechanics don't have. I was calling around to get a set and happened to call Lord about them. The but answered all my questions and then at the end of the conversation he asked where I was getting them from. I named a shop I had talked to and he told me "we only sell to AviAll. If you purchase them anywhere else you're paying at least two markups.". I had an affiliation with a shop that had an AviAll account and they let me order all 11 using their account. We were able to save a pretty good chunk!
