  1. I will be there. flying from Charlottesville, VA to Denver, CO.. and back. That will be fun!
  2. Asked me if I knew any good places for him to call. I don't as I live on the East Coast. Curious, anyone in the SFO area know of a good flying tour? He sent me these two: http://www.flybayarea.com/ https://seaplaneadventures.rezdy.com/catalog/83513/tours Good? Bad? Thanks! MJP
  3. The instructor and I did this (on the ground, of course!!) to see how long it would take after I asked the question. I have a 86 201 and it took about 4-6 seconds. Not long at all! Probably why I count to 6 with my hand on the switcher when I switch tanks now.. Just in case so I can switch back if need be. That and watch fuel flow when I do switch.
  4. Hello Folks Headed To Sun N Fun, Not sure if it is useful or fun, but I going to start a GroupMe channel for those at Sun n Fun this year. We can use it to group text (it's free) and will everyone to coordinate or let each other know anything interesting. Eg meeting places, any good classes or presos to attend or just plain general info for the Mooney crew while at the show this year. If you are interested download the app: Apple - https://appsto.re/us/AOzAx.i android - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.groupme.android once you download and login, direct message the phone number you set it up with and I will add you to the group. Btw, once you are on, you can invite others too. thx! Michael P.s. I will be there Friday April 8th. Flying into Orlando April 7th.
  5. You guys were right. The mount is cracked. See picture. Guess I may need to just upgrade to a vertical compass, right?
  6. Check out the video from today. This is 86 m20j. Does everyone else's vibrate like this? https://goo.gl/photos/wDaBv1Fv7TCAMVJY7 thanks!
  7. Flew to RDU today but during preflight, noticed these bubbles under the paint on the pilots side, right behind the cowling. I've never seen this before. I will take it to my mechanic when I am back Thursday ( headed to PDK tomorrow ) but curious if you all have any ideas? I don't think there is anything that could have linked under there. thanks! MJP
  8. I'd like to make a go and come up.... standing by for location
  9. Thinking of heading up for some fun tomorrow. Looking for somewhere within an hour +/- around my homebase. Charlottesville, VA. Any suggestions? Impromptu fly-in maybe? :-)
  10. Done! Thank you!
  11. plan on going out this weekend.. i am hoping for those results! will report
  12. Yes, we used Goo Off and a brass brush. It was a ton of work but worth it.
  13. So this is my first update on my "new plane" and figured I would share some picks. The old door seal that was on there was bulging out the sides when the door was closed. Felt it was time for an upgrade so I bought an aircraft door seals seal. Little did I realize the amount of work required! It took about 5-6 hours to get all the old adhesive off. It was caked on there pretty good. I almost think that it was replaced in the past and never really cleaned before. Once that was off, putting the new seal on was about 30 minutes, I'd say. Reassembling the door upholstery probably another 1 hour given I could not figure out which screws went where. either way, managed to get it done. I can tell you that the door seal no longer bulges out the sides but it does not like parts of the door are not flush with the fuselage... But I am hoping that's because the seal is so new that it just needs time to form to the body of the door and frame. It was certainly tough getting it closed the first time! Anyway, it was a blast to do and I can't wait to tackle the baggage door next. I do want to thank Hubert Compton who was there the entire time helping me through this. No way I could have done it without his knowledge. Happy to others near CHO if you want to do this. thanks all! MJP
  14. Oh man, this happened to me this weekend in a crosswind landing as I came in hot and then bounced twice, I remembered this advice and immediately executed a go around right after the 2nd bounce. Saved my plane and who knows what else! Anyway, love Mooneyspace... that's for sure.
  15. I have the original Mooney paint numbers: Base graystone 570-579 Dark Charcoal 579-603 Burgandy Red 576-542 Where can I get some touch up paint? Thx! MJP
  16. UPDATE -- after weeks work on this, that story another time , it turns out the A&P calibrated the fuel pressure gage to what the fuel pressure was. Everything else was functioning as it is supposed to. Now it reads at 25 pretty consistently. There are apparently two screws that allow you to calibrate it. Best, MJP
  17. Need to drop my plane at klku for repairs and trying to figure out how to get back to KCHO. Anyone happen to be in the area that's want to do some flying . I know its a stretch but figured I'd ask..
  18. That's an awesome pic!
  19. Looks like my left wing is leaking fuel... It is on top where you enter the cabin. I dont see anything else.. Top or under. How do I fix this? See pic. P.S. 4th week of ownership and I've already dealt with a fuel pressure Gage issue, FBO that dinged my flap when moving it and now this! Ugh, hopefully I'll get these out early so the rest of the year is event free. Thanks all!
  20. Just got my mooney and I've put a couple of drops of dawn and water into a spray bottle that I've been using to spray and wipe off the leading edges and any spots I want to clean after flight. I use a micro fiber cloth to do the wiping. But after a little research, I am thinking I may not want to be using dawn? Any thoughts? I'd hate to cause damage.. The paint is 30 years old and little bits of it has peels away so the aluminum is exposed. Thanks, MJP
  21. Thanks Bill, good to know. I'm thinking mine is "normal" too just don't like the gage not being accurate. I'll let you know what I dig up. Best, MJP
  22. Update. The mechanic hooked it up to a pressure gauge and the pressure is 2-4 lbs more than what the gauge is showing. He is going to look at the transducer to determine if it is that or the gauge. He said he was looking at the manual for the voltages? Ok, question, does that sound right to you guys? What can I tell him to look at? Thanks! MJP
  23. So should I have an a&p check it out? I do notice that I tend to have to turn on boost pump as I turn the key on start up. Even after turning the pump on and off for five seconds as the check list suggests. Could my pump be going bad? It just I don't know how to start my plane?!
  24. It seemed to be on the low side when I started flying today. It picked up a little later on but definitely sits towards the left side. This normal/ok? P.S. 1 week of Mooney ownership. I love this plane!
