  2. Thanks all! And thank you "Apollo" . Mooney rules!
  3. Thanks Brian! It was great meeting a few Moonie folks! Lots of fun. Best, MJP
  4. Hello All -- just closed on N5815X today. It's a 1986 M20J. Will be picking it up tomorrow and bring it back to VA Friday. Plan on coming out to this Saturday as I need some training time anyway for insurance. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys! Best, MJP
  5. Awesome! I can come up there too.
  6. KCHO - Charlottesville, VA Thanks!
  7. If all goes according to plan, of course. Thanks for the help everyone. I asked, and searched, quite a bit on here. Great community. I'll be bringing it up with a CFI from FL to VA but we will take the "long way" back given I need a minimum of 10 hours dual in it. Will post pics next week! ~MJP
  8. Yup.. I have my IFR but definitely want to take time to practice instruments on this platform. All I've flown for that is a C-182P, so the M20J is all new to me. Thanks! MJP
  9. Yea, they both sound awesome. Unfortunately, neither are available. I do have a couple of guys that may be able to do it. Working on it. Thank you all for your help!
  10. Haha.. Got it. Still looking for a CFI to help. I did contact mapa safety foundation to see as well. Will let you all now. Thank you again! ~Michael
  11. Thanks all! Very funny on the 10 hours... Insurance requirement so figure we will have to fly in a zig zag pattern all the way! Parker?
  12. I have a purchase agreement in place, money down, and the pre-buy inspection is Wednesday. If all goes well, I want to go pick it up Thursday, May 21 in South FL. Any recommendations on a CFI that I can call? For insurance I need 10 hours dual on it.. so figure we take two days to go from FL to my home base in VA (KCHO)? Hopefully a CFI in the Northeast or somewhere I could drop off and fly solo back. Need 5 hours solo to take passengers. Thanks! MJP
  13. Ok, it's official, just signed Purchase Agreement this morning on a 201. Fingers crossed all goes well with PPI. Will keep you all updated. Thanks for the recommendations! ~MJP
  14. Hello All, Looks like I will be putting together a purchase agreement today! We agreed to price and financing has been approved. So closer now.. philiplane, assume you are the "Phil" being referenced by everyone? If so, I will call you later this week to discuss. Thanks all! More soon... ~MJP
  15. I'll go in for $100. BTW, I am currently looking at a M20J to buy -- going through financing right now. SO, I know the effort and the sacrifice.. so hopefully we can get your plane back. Good luck! ~MJP
  16. Finalizing financing and all that to make an offer on a M20J. It is in Florida. I will need to do a pre-purchase inspection on it if moves forward. Any recommendations? Thanks! MJP
  17. Will do! It is not crunched,,, I think that is just a reflection... Thanks for the info!
  18. I checked it out today and it's nice. We even took it flying. Overall, I really like this plane. That said, I checked as much as I could and things looked good to me but, of course, just enough for me to think about an offer and get a PPI . That said, see the attached picture... This is under the wing... Are the streaks from fuel tanks weeping? Thanks!
  19. In regard to the camshaft advice above, according to the logs it has flown less than 50 hours over the past 3 years. It has had annuals and all that but not really flying. Should this affect my offer price? Is it "most likely $8k" as described above? Thanks!
  20. Thanks all! This is very helpful. Bonal, yes, I did not mean any disrespect I should have said I've chosen the m20j as my first plane... This is after spending months looking at my mission and what platforms would work and what I could afford! Nervous but excited all at the same time.
  21. I'm looking for my first plane. I think I've settled on a m20j as the one. Looking at one this Sunday in person. What should I look for? Heard leaking fuel tanks is one thing... Anything else? What questions should I ask? Thanks! MJP
  22. Thanks all! Very amazing to see how great and open this forum is. I do have a 5 year old but I am not sure when I will be taking him. Most likely one more adult... Possibly 3 total adults. Will look at the George Perry articles and will try to go out and take my time. I'm also ok with getting some of the stuff I want and upgrading as I get more cash Thanks! MJP
  23. Hello All, I am starting to look for a plane for myself -- thinking later in Spring or early Summer to pull the trigger -- and I am researching which platform to get. I am a ~200 hour Instrument rated pilot who has spent most of my time in Cessna 172 and 182s. My typical mission will be for my work flying from my home base of KCHO up to NYC, maybe as east as KY and down to Atlanta. Essentially mid-Atlantic area. I want to get something on my own - eg no partners for now - so my budget is ~$75,000. I would like a decent instrument panel with a good autopilot and WAAS, if possible. And generally something in nice condition given my wife is still is nervous to fly with me so something that does not look like a beater will help, right?! My research is pointing me to a Piper Arrow, Cessna 182 and the Mooney m20j. On paper I am leaning towards a m20j but I have never actually been in one. Nor do I know anyone that really knows them. My question is two fold. First, where can I go near KCHO where I could get a ride in one? Second, any Mooney folks on this forum live in Charlottesville or nearby? Love to pick your brain. Anyway, appreciate your input. Oh by the way, I plan to fly a little tomorrow morning and was planning to head to manassas... If someone is around maybe I can say hi.. Thanks! MJP
