To answer your question it depends. Technically, yes if you have a TSO certified wingtip and tail strobe light, you do not need a beacon light. The "it depends" part requires you to take a look at your POH or TCDS to see if the belly beacon is part of the aircraft certification. Secondly, it will require you to run the strobe lights all the time, which on the ground or if you fly into clouds it can become a distraction. I have an excellent inventory of the PAR-36 (4.5" diameter) G3 LED landing and taxi lights and the PAR-46 (5.75" diameter) G3 LED landing light. Depending on the vintage of your Mooney, some take PAR-36 and some take PAR-46. A good rule of thumb is if your Mooney has a single lamp in the nose of the plane, it is PAR-46. None of these lights require you to add power supplies because once you apply 14 volts direct current (VDC) they will work. So if you have a strobe power supply, it needs to come out and that strobe power wire requires reconnecting in order for it to get 14 VDC. For a belly pan beacon, any 14V beacon with the bell shaped 3.75" base is a drop in replacement. Photos below. These Shaw 457 fuel caps already come equipped with fluorosilicone o-rings so they should not deteriorate. PMA Products, Inc. does make a new specialty one for these - I believe.

This is how some Aveo products wear over time because they use(d) a poured epoxy for their lenses that you cannot replace. Whelen uses a replaceable polycarbonate lens, if it has one. I carry them too. Think about how you will support your airplane 10, 20, 30, 40 years from now.

If you guys are not interested in creating a whole new wingtip assembly for a different light, I now carry the LED direct replacement for the 70303 halogen bulbs that melt your wingtip lenses. You pick the LED lamp that corresponds with your ship power, nothing to do with the resistor that is found in a lot of Mooneys.
