  1. Folks: My J is in annual and my mechanic is looking for these parts. They called Mooney but only crickets - I told him I thought they are not even open right now. Any idea on where to source parts like these?
  2. All: thanks for the feedback, appreciate it.
  3. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has ideas on this. On my 78 J, the EDM700 will show 12.2 volts for 10 minutes, then up to 12.5 for 15 minutes or so, and back to 12.2. Sometimes down to 12.0 for a few seconds but then back to 12.2 or 12.3, sometimes sits on 12.6, etc. etc. Also, my (original I think) ammeter oscillates terribly, back and forth a lot when gear is moved, then it settles, and every so often will oscillate, mostly to positive side and then settle again. Now this has been going on for over five years, so not broke so don't fix it, or? I haven't ever in 15 years replaced voltage regulator, and wondering if that is it...
  4. Anyone have experience using the Minimax electric towbar Good to know - I've been looking at all those models (am getting too old to move airplane even with wife) -- buying my Sidewinder now, 5 week wait. When icy (around my Minn. hangar) will need to put some sand down or plywood maybe??
  5. Hi, can anyone confirm the model number for a rebuilt AI for my 78 M20J, would be 52D66? It's only $750 from AQI in Kansas, so it has roll output, but no pitch...this because it needs to IF to my Cent 2B and 430 non waas. My AI is acting up so want to replace it with rebuilt, since it's quickest. Thanks.
  6. Century 2B problems - I am having similar issues, my unit tracks good some days, some days bad. Old analog equipment I think will do that, depending on temp, etc.? All the way home last time it was off 1/2 to one full dot off, but at least tracked steady like that. Anyone think it's worth it to overhaul these units somehow, or??
  7. Anyone have issues with the metal slider arm on the baggage door? Mine is binding badly and its very difficult to open the door. My mechanic a few years back tightened it somehow because it was so loose. My new mechanic is not sure how to loosen it. I have used white lithium spray on it which helps but only for a short time. Any ideas appreciated. Joe 78 M20J
  8. This is how i do it too!! I learned to fly using the full stall landing technique -- when appropriate i.e. no or little crosswind -- just be ready to add a bit of power if you are about to drop it in from more than about a foot.
  9. No no this guy probably wasn't on oxy up at 10 or 11 K for all that time. Came down fast and then oops hypoxia.I know I've had it. Betting he was over 40. Got behind the plane. Stall spin crash burn. Bad day. Use oxy when you need it.
  10. Just got this from my EAA chapter... I just received the following from Tom Charpentier, EAA Government and Relations Director:"The good news is that we won this round. Late last night Shuster dropped the ATC reorganization language from his "manager's amendment." There are still opportunities for the language to crop up again, however, so we'll stay vigilant until this bill is finally done."
  11. Here's what EAA said... Shuster backdoors ATC Privatization Amendment....here's what EAA Chairman asks us to do! EAA Chairman Jack Pelton also responded quickly to the amendment, calling on EAA members Tuesday afternoon to contact their congressional representatives immediately, to oppose the plan. "This is a devious, backroom maneuver after public and congressional opinion showed to be solidly against ATC privatization and caused the withdrawal of the original bill," said Pelton. "This is reckless, punitive policymaking that circumvents any public input. We believe that was exactly the intent of this amendment at this time." The provision would "set the stage for airline domination of the ATC system," EAA said. Aviation advocacy groups sent a letter on Tuesday to House leadership and members, urging them to drop Section 5 of Shuster's amendment to H.R. 4. The groups urged their members to contact their representatives immediately.
  12. I just got this from the Mooney aviating e-mail list; if you can please help on this!!: In a surprise eleventh-hour backroom move, the chairman of the House Transportation Committee has amended the current FAA reauthorization bill to remove air traffic control from the FAA and place it in the U.S. Department of Transportation, to be overseen by an airline-dominated board of directors. The House vote could happen as early as April 25. While not "privatized," ATC would still be removed from the FAA, the only agency with the experience to run air traffic control. ATC would also be run by a new board whose interests would be focused on giving airlines ATC priority. Call your Congressional Representative and demand they oppose moving ATC out of the FAA! 1. Dial toll-free: 833-GAVOICE (833-428-6423), weekdays from 9-5 Eastern. 2. You will be asked to input your zip code then transferred to your Representative's office. 3. Say: "I am opposed to the manager's amendment to HR 4 which moves air traffic control out of the FAA!" If you do not call, and this bill passes Congress and is signed into law, ATC could be controlled by the airlines, and access by general aviation and skydiving could take a back seat.
  13. Mostly always Minnie-apolis.
  14. I see it now! Yah iPads are awesome.
  15. Sorry I wasn't clear enough...I meant I use the charts in Foreflite, almost always in the sectional MODE, even when IFR. Maybe it doesn't really matter?!!
  16. While flying using Foreflite, anyone else tend to use their sectional even when flying IFR? Typically I always get a direct routing and never bother to use the IFR chart, and just use the VFR sectional, at least until all I need is the approach plate. Maybe a bad habit??
  17. All: I want to replace my old compass on my 78J - the plastic airpath housing constantly cracks, and the compass always needs maintenance for leaks. I have heard the SIRS might be a good replacement (see below), but it appears the whole pattern won't match what is there on the existing cage bar member where the existing airpath compass is. Any ideas or suggestions would be welcomed. Joe Allen Mpls 78J
  18. Shadrach, I want to replace my old compass on my 78J - the plastic airpath housing constantly cracks, and the compass always needs maintenance for leaks. How did you mount the SIRS? It doesn't look like the wholes will fit to the existing cage bar member where the existing compass is.
  19. Saw the video. That looks so COOL!!!
