The T&L update was released for two Apps yesterday: 1. General Aviation (which contains the T&L App) 2. Takeoff & Landing Apple usually takes at least a few days to get things through the system but the General Aviation App (version 1.24) made it into the store last night. The T&L App should be there within a few days - it will be Version 2.14. They both have 30-day free trials. You should be able to find the M20J in the GA App now, and the T&L App within a few days.

I added 4 new airplanes to my General Aviation Takeoff & Landing Distance App yesterday. They are now available in the Apple iOS and Google Android stores. These have been on the agenda for a number of months and I finally got them published yesterday. I'm posting this notice because a few people here had been interested in the M20J. The planes added: - Beechcraft Bonanza A36 - Grumann AG-5B - Mooney M20J - Piper PA-46R-350T Malibu Matrix The total number of planes now available is 51. More information here: http://www.cfitools.com/ Or search the store for CFI Tools. Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions or comments, it was a member from here that helped me with the M20J - thanks. Email at brian@cfitools.com

Finishing that form in less 30 minutes could get you in trouble with the union.

New Format aviationweather.gov
BrianBest replied to BrianBest's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I agree the streamlines are easier for me too. They still exist but now it takes a little digging to find them. Click Forecasts Select Winds/Temps Scroll Down On the left click the picture of Wind/Temp Plots On the left under plot select Streamlines Then select altitude and time 6 simple steps and you're there -
New Format aviationweather.gov

I told NOAA I thought the new site was slow. The response: "We noticed right away that the slowness is an issue. I just made a few changes that will help and we have a few other tricks up our sleeve to boost the speed. Keep an eye out over the next couple days." At least they answered the comments. -
The new format http://aviationweather.gov/ went live yesterday. It is slow and unfamiliar. I thought the old one was fine. I'll get used to it, but I hope they speed it up.

Send me good scans of performance charts and any notes from the POH. I'm always happy to look at them. No guarantees about being able to work with them or the schedule. But if you look at the list you can see I've been able to work with a lot of different airplanes some fairly simple and others kind of flaky.
-
Correct, so far I have the M20K and M20M. I'm not familiar with the M20J performance charts. If you have a clean scan or a pdf I'd be happy to take a look at them. As you may know this is a one-man outfit so no promise on schedule. I've taken anywhere from a month to several months to add a new T&L airplane depending on my schedule.

I added 7 more airplanes to the T&L Apps. Including a Mooney M20K. Also some new Air Tractor, Beech, Cessna and Piper, I'm now up to 47 models. Android and Windows are available now, iOS takes a few days to get through the Apple system. http://www.CFITools.com http://www.EdgemontAviation.com/ for Windows PC If you have any trouble with these at all please email me directly at brian@cfitools.com, I'll fix it.

FYI - saw this at AOPA VREF http://www.aopa.org/members/vref/ "AOPA has been notified of several incidences in which an alleged aircraft seller claims the sale and transaction of an aircraft will occur through an "AOPA Escrow Service." This is a phishing scam that appears to be originating out of the U.K."
-
I used Aero Space last August to sell a plane. They did a good job, quick, accurate and efficient. I found them through AOPA. http://www.aopa.org/Products-and-Services/Aircraft-Title-and-Escrow-Services.aspx

This isn't an accomplishment yet, but I like the idea. http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2014/January/13/AOPA-asks-FAA-to-rescind-new-training-standards.aspx?CMP=ADV%3A1

Anybody else Geek Out like this?

Another twist on the real/sim intersection is that now you can connect your tablet real world App with your sim. Today I hooked up my Android Nexus 7 tablet running Naviation with the MS FSX. So instead of using real-world GPS the Naviator is taking the GPS feed from FSX. I had to fumble around with the router settings, but finally got them connected. If interested in the details check here: http://forum.naviatorapp.com/viewtopic.php?pid=3486 -
When I had 2 trainers leased to a flight school my annual insurance bill for both was $11,160. Some insurance companies charge what they need.

Over 4 years I had three different planes that I leased to a flight school. One was totaled (on the ground no injuries), another had a significant prop strike (no injuries). As a result of the prop strike I got a new prop and an engine overhaul. Including deducting the insurance premiums as a business expense I might have come out ahead. I certainly came out way ahead of where I would have been without insurance. That was a relatively short term experience and I haven't tried to calculate exactly, but I probably came out ahead.

Why no Windows or Android based in Flight Map System
BrianBest replied to Steve65E-NC's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I'm not the expert, but I have used it to file a few flight plans like from Podunk (KJYO Leesburg, VA ) to Podunk (KACK Nantucket, MA) and a few others and it found some recent routes. It worked OK and I liked the email telling me my expected ATC Route, it made it easier to deal with the clearance. Also I could tell them to file my return-home trip a week in advance, that just made it a little easier while on the road away from my pc. I agree about the web interface it is not the easiest thing in the world to figure out. I had trouble figuring out how to do a simple change to the flight plan but eventually found it. (click the modify button (dot) then click press here when done - down below) Being cheap by nature I like the free sectionals and en-route charts but I definitely would not recommend counting on the App to supply my charts in flight. The App has died on me a few times and you don't want that happening at a time when you need the chart. It may be ok as a backup or maybe a second level backup after the paper and certified GPS. So I like to use it for filing flight plans and using the free charts for planning on the ground or a quick reference. -
Why no Windows or Android based in Flight Map System
BrianBest replied to Steve65E-NC's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I have used the FltPlan.com web site to file flight plans it makes some things easier. For example it allows you to save a plan and tell them to file it a week later. It also shows the most recent plans filed by others for the same route. And it sends you emails when it files then sends you the expected ATC route by email an hour before the flight. They have Apps for both Apple iPad/iPhone and Android. The Apps have free sectionals, low and high altitude enroute charts and Approach Charts - the Approach charts are not geo-referenced. All of the above is free - web site and Apps. -
My AME always makes it clear when I make the appointment - bring the number. He also says to make sure you keep a copy of your electronic form. What you really don't want to do is not mention something on the next visit that you did mention on this visit - that raises eyebrows in OK City.

Cloud Ahoy to Charge $70/year....
BrianBest replied to Cabanaboy's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I build a Flight Recorder App that does some similar things. One-time charge, no sign-up, no web page - all on the iPad, iPhone or Android. I'm new to this forum and I don't know how you react to advertising so I won't say too much here but I couldn't resist making a post. I'm a flight instructor and I've been building aviation Apps for about 5 years now. I think you are right about Cloud Ahoy, I actually only became aware of it a few weeks ago, I've had versions of the flight recorder for sale for about 5 years. I don't blame the guy for trying to make some money it's a tough market. For me it's more of a hobby I am a 1-man shop and build the Apps for my own use. You can find the flight recorder App and others here: http://www.cfitools.com/html/flight_recorder1.html If you have questions or suggestions don't hesitate to email. The iPad/iPhone version is a recent upgrade, I'll probably now revisit the Android version and make some upgrades.
