PowerTow is now disassembled. It's conceivable that it can be shipped now, but I will have to confirm if you're interested. I'm uploading an explainer video for reassembly to YouTube - it took 5-6 minutes to remove the orange handle and nosegear clamps. Should be 10 mins or less to reassemble. It should now fit easily into trunk of a car or back of plane. -

I did take a look and we can removed the handlebar leading to a tidy 36" x 20" x 19" base unit. -

I've pondered that myself. The clamps are removable which would shorten it by about 20 inches - I can measure when I get back home. I hadn't analyzed this before but looking at the video, looks like the orange handle is bolted to the engine frame. If the handle can be removed it's a no-brainer. It's not that heavy - I can lift it onto the bed of my pickup by myself. My guess is that with the seats down (and certainly with handle removed), it will fit, but I would want to package up the various edges and ensure it didn't scratch or tear any upholstery. If you like I can look into handle removal tonight. -

I've accepted an offer on 252BH. Awfully sad to see her go. It's even harder to not have an anchor into the Mooney community. RJ, welcome to the board. Thank you for your service. I was in your position, 3 years ago (albeit without that valuable AF experience!) and searchng for either a Bo or a Mooney. I looked for 9 months, primarily focused on Beechcraft because of family tradition more than anything else. My Dad flew a Baron, then a Duke and I spent much time in Beech products growing up. But the bottom line was that I just could not find a decent Bo that met my needs, for my budget. My mission is comparable to yours - I needed to carry 2 people, full fuel, and luggage, with 4 people occasionally. My longest trip so far is non-stop Springfield MO to York PA, 815nm, with 2 adults on board. That was roughly 4:45 as I recall. I regularly fly Springfield to Clovis NM to visit my son who is an AC130 pilot at Canon AFB. We have made that trip, 500 nm, with four adults and IFR reserves. Westbound. I have a 252, Encore conversion so my useful is a little high for a Mooney at 1030#. But as folks have mentioned, many Js have the payload to handle your missoon easily. As for room, I'm 6'2"+, and sit tall. 225 lbs currently, and it would be lower if I could cut back on beer. But who wants to do that? I have no issues with room. My son is 6'4", and skinny, and has occupied the rear seat. Having reclining seats in back helped, and with that, he claimed he was comfortable. My other son, 6' and probably 230#, has occuped the rear seat from OSH to SGF, no problem. Good luck with your search.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this question - it has taken much, much longer than I imagined to move the repairs forward. As of this week, the gearbox has been disassembled. It was indeed a broken back spring. Plessey gearbox. For such fast vehicles, it always surprises me how slow the processes regarding airplanes, and aviation in general, move. The engine is finally out and on its way to Continental for teardown and inspection.. Hopefully in another 5 or 6 weeks 252BH will be flying again. -
Given where he lost the engine (assuming that's what happened), hard to imagine a better outcome than this: pilot was able to refuse medical care, and no one on the ground hurt. Just some bent metal. Wow.

I advise on digital commerce for a living, and our mantra is: design for mobile first, desktop second. I also personally know the principals of the company who did Mooney's website redesign.. I may pass along the feedback at the right time. I think Mooney has an interesting marketing/product roadmap challenge: how to leverage the brand's core value proposition (speed/efficiency/style/safety) but meet 21st century benchmarks like that of Cirrus. I would argue that, despite my faith in the strength of the Mooney cockpit, in the eyes of Joe Aircraft Buyer, Mooney gets no better than a "C" compared to Cirrus without BRS on the safety dimension. In other words I think Mooney has an uphill battle claiming they are at market parity, let alone a leader, on the single most critical attribute. I really think Mooney has to find a way to add BRS.. I know the poll here said *we* don't care that much, but we're the folks who already bought Mooneys.. we have a self-selecting bias. Had we cared that much about BRS we wouldn't be on this forum. But there were 204 Cirrus buyers last year who voted with their wallets for an aircraft with BRS.. I have to assume it was BRS that won them over - can't see any other reason to have a Cirrus. ;-) I really look forward to seeing how Mooney sales figures stack up against Brands B, C, and C, now that capacity is ramping back up. -

Quotes on props are 3 weeks lead time for Hartzell, and MT says they have my prop in inventory. Engine tear down/inspections are looking like 3 weeks as well, with I assume a week on either side to pull and reinstall.. I tend to be pessimistic regarding any aviation repair - it doesn't seem like anything happens in aviation quickly - so I'm planning 8 weeks downtime. -
I doubt 2BH will be back in the air by SnF, so if anyone wants to split costs, flying from Central US, ping me.

My insurance broker helpfully pointed out that I have substitue airplane rental coverage, so while N252BH is being worked on I'll be looking for a way to keep my skills up. If anyone has any suggestions for Mooney rental within 200 miles or so of KSGF (Springfield MO), please share.

I should have been more clear in my original post - I am looking for a reputable rebuild shop, but tear down/inspection from prop strike is what's needed. I currently have quotes from TCM, Poplar Grove, and Western Skyways. I'm hopeful that we can get 252BH ferried down to Don Maxwell's for the work on the airframe. I think he could also do the engine inspection, as a fourth option. Thanks for all the info. -

When I had my annual done, we pulled out the interior, threw it in the back of my son's pickup, and he drove it down to AeroComfort in San Antonio. It took about three weeks as I recall for Hector and crew to turn it around. When it came back, my A&P installed it all. He said it was the easiest reinstall he'd ever done - I think he was skeptical about my shipping everything out, but he was very impressed with Aerocomfort's workmanship.
