David Mazer Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Does anyone know if there is an LED drop in replacement for the U327 bulb. Mine seem to go out regularly. They're cheap, $0.22 at SkyGeek but they just don't last very long. Quote

David Mazer Posted August 25, 2013 Author Report Posted August 25, 2013 Great. Thanks. Any idea if the center contact should be positive or negative? Midget Flanged Based LED, T1-3/4 (5mm) Energy-Saving Miniature Lamp Quote
NotarPilot Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 I was wondering the same thing. I imagine using a multimeter will be able to tell you. I'm going to check mine. Does anyone know if it's legal to install one of these LED bulbs on a certificated aircraft? Quote
Jerry 5TJ Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 Per the web site http://www.martekled.com/-strse-173/%23327-flange-based-LED/Detail.bok The GE327 direct replacement is available in center connector (+) or center (-) or in an AC version which would work no matter which way you've got the socket wired. They are $9 each so you can buy a lot of 327 bulbs before you break even. Quote
David Mazer Posted August 25, 2013 Author Report Posted August 25, 2013 Thanks. I didn't realize the AC version would work in a 12 or 24 V DC environment. That would make it easier. The cost for the incandescent vs LED isn't the issue as much as reliability and power consumption. Okay, power consumption isn't an issue either with these little bulbs but reliability is. Quote
Jerry 5TJ Posted August 25, 2013 Report Posted August 25, 2013 The GE327 is a 28V bulb. Use the GE330 for 12V applications. Quote
David Mazer Posted August 26, 2013 Author Report Posted August 26, 2013 Right, I knew that. The real question, even if poorly asked, is the AC vs DC aspect. Quote
