Before you invest in a non-WAAS box, you might want to ask Garmin for the support of this item.  Word I'm hearing is that if your non-WAAS box breaks, you have to up-grade it to get it repaired.....

 

Just a rumor.  Maybe someone knows for sure.

 

The WAAS 430/540 gives you some great IFR advantages.

I will not disagree with you since all aircrafts will need a WAAS source by 2020 for ADS-B out.

 

 

However, there will be plenty of options by then that do not have to use the panel GPS for WAAS. 

 

Also,  it just a matter of time for when Garmin will stop supporting the non-WAAS 430/530, then the WAAS 430/530 , then the GTNs, etc ...

 

Think of the avionics business model more like Microsoft or Apple where support goes back only to the last 2 or 3 products.
