As far as hull insurance, I think it's always wise to insure it with agreed value policy at fair market value. Personally I like to go a little above and beyond fair market value, within reason and according to what they'll agree. The difference is cheap. Consider that the underwriter can still total the aircraft after what appears to be a minor loss. This is because they take into account the salvage value. You want to be sure you are insured high enough so you will be covered and they will be discouraged from totaling it for a minor loss. The decision to total it is theirs solely and once they do and pay a total loss, the aircraft is theirs.
