KSMooniac Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 I'm glad they found him. What a tragedy...
Skybrd Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 I was wondering why no photos have shown up since they found the wreckage. I could be wrong but have some thoughts on this. The National Park Service in Yosemite has restricted flying over "Their park" to a level that almost requires oxygen since its 2000 feet higher than the highest obstacle. In my opinion this limited the search for the missing pilot and they called off the official search after a time. I read that the aircraft was found almost intact and we don't know if the pilot died of exposure or in the crash. The pictures would tell some of the story if the pilot crash landed like the one near Kearsearge Pass where they pancaked in the side and two died of exposure. If the photos would show any possibe fault on the NPS and their air space restriction, I would think they would hold or restrict photos to the public. I sure could be wrong about this and apologize if I'm wrong. I don't trust the NPS since they lied to the public about closing down Giant Forest Village in Sequoia Park. see http://www.giantforestvillage.com They found the missing Mooney last Saturday. I read that the airplane was mostly intact, and the pilot was among the wreckage. it was spotted by a park visitor and the next day park employees went to the site. I'm not exactly sure but it appears to me that he went down east of the village and south of Tioga pass. I'm glad someone found the wreckage at least for the family's sake.

The flight restrictions there may have impeded amateurs like you and me from flying around the park looking for the downed Mooney, but how many people like us actually tried to look? There are no photos because who would have taken them? The news media isn't going to send a reporter and a photographer to a remote mountain to photograph old news about just another small plane that crashed months ago. The NTSB may, or may not have taken pictures, but they're not in the business of posting pictures on the internet. The people that discovered the wreck and those that worked on recovery may have taken snap shots, but what interest would they have in posting pictures? Again it's yesterday's small plane crash. The mountains and oceans are littered with them. I don't see any conspiracy, or NPS wrong doing here in the case of this crash. Your concerns about the NPS's aims, goals and ambitions are concerning and worthy of discussion, but I don't think they had much to do with this terrible event. 2

Not necessarily a bad thing to protect the wildlife in parks. kind of like being a good neighbor. Beyond that, I am not sure having planes doing search & rescue operations below 2000 agl in a mountain area would be a good thing. best to leave that to the properly equiped pro. I flew that pass several times and the venturi effect is very strong
