Yourpilotincommand Posted August 3, 2022 Report Posted August 3, 2022 I had an oil leak found/repaired and wanted to clean up the nose gear. What do you guys recommend on how to do this? I’m afraid engine degreaser might harm the donuts or pivot points on the truss. Maybe I slather the area with degreaser and follow up with a pressure washer? I was also thinking I might have to get under there on a creeper and spend all day with rags, gloves, and an old toothbrush meticulously cleaning every nook and cranny. Thanks! Quote
PT20J Posted August 3, 2022 Report Posted August 3, 2022 Oral B tooth brush soaked in Varsol Really I would just spray it liberally with a mineral spirit solvent (my favorite is odorless paint thinner) and then hose it off. It won't hurt the donuts or the bushings. Just grease all the zerks and spray the rod ends with Triflow when you're done. 2 1 Quote
EricJ Posted August 3, 2022 Report Posted August 3, 2022 +1 on mineral spirits in a sprayer. A light wash (no pressure sprayer) with water afterward to finish up. The white goop hand cleaner and some shop towels works well, too, especially for the thick stuff. 1 Quote
201Steve Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 Recommend paper towels over rags. The goo drags around a lot and having fresh towels every few passes makes the matter quicker. I use a low concentration simple green aviation. Quote
