Steering damper for a 1966 M20C?

The white looking shock absorber is attached to the nose wheel linkage.  The image is the port panel area next to the nose wheel compartment.

Any idea what it is? Part number? I can't find anything about it in the service manual..

Its the rudder system bungee (similar to the elevator bungees) that should be set for zero force when the rudder system is rigged with the copilot pedals blocked to even setting.

It adds to the rudder/nose wheel centering force both on the ground and in flight

Figure 6-5 in the maintenance manual.
